ParticipantLooks like the post ride celebration will be longer than the ride. Well done, WABA

ParticipantOn the off-hand chance I get a garmin, will there be a downloadable route available?

I seriously doubt it, as WABA does not publish it’s routes ahead of time…
“Cue sheets for the route or ride maps will NOT be released prior to the event. Everyone will receive route information upon check in. Part of the fun and appeal of WABA rides are that the routes are a surprise. It’s an adventure!”

ParticipantHello all,
Got Cider? I have a spare registration available for the now-sold out Cider Ride coming this Saturday, November 14. Signed up my wife and she has an alternate commitment. Yeah, silly of her…what is she thinking?
Anyway, the extra registration is yours in exchange for $35 (I got the early bird discount). The registration works for either route. Interested? PM me.
Cheers, Justin

From the registration email:
RIDER TIPS & TRICKS:
-The Cider Ride is unsupported—that means no SAG support vehicles. In the event of an emergency or crash, we do have a staff member on call to respond.
-There will be snacks/drinks at pit stops. For the longer 47 mile Honeycrisp route, the route passes by several locations where you can stop and purchase lunch if you want food beyond pit stop snacks, or plan to bring a lunch with you. (Recommended lunch places: Just after the Cider Stop 1 you pass a few markets and restaurants on Rhode Island Ave and just after Cider Stop 2 you pass through Old Greenbelt where there is a co-op grocery store, a Chinese restaurant, and a deli.)
-Bring what you would need to fix a flat (spare tube, tire levers, small bike pump or C02 cartridge), extra snacks, metro card just in case, and cash for lunch or a cab ride just in case.-Bring a water bottle with you. Bring two if you have two.
-If the weather will be sunny (even if it’s cool) don’t forget sunglasses. It will likely be cool, so wear layers, and don’t forget something to cover your ears and warm gloves if it’s really cool. When it’s super cold out, it’s also smart to bring an extra pair of socks and something to cover your neck and face area if it’s windy.

ParticipantI’ll also be a first-time Cider-Rider. I’ll be doing the Honeycrisp?
Will anyone among us be marshaling? If so, I’ll happily follow you!
If not, is there interest in starting a little Bike Arlington mob?

ParticipantMob time. I too am a first-timer, and will be Honeycrisp-ing.

ParticipantHere are some secret tips for extra food and drinks along the ride routes. Most of these places you can watch your bike pretty easy if you don’t bring a lock, but I’d still recommend bringing at least a cable lock if you plan on stopping for additional refreshment. And of course, the Dew Drop Inn will be a great pre-ride home food and beverage stop.
Short Route
Mile 4 Shortcake Bakery (pastries, coffee) — NW Branch Trail at Route 1
Mile 13 Fishnet Restaurant (food, beer, outdoor/indoor seating) — College Park Trolley Trail at Berwyn Road
Mile 15 Riverdale Market (beer on tap, snacks) — Queensbury Road at the MARC/CSX railroad crossing
Mile 16 Franklins Restaurant (beer on tap, food, lots of bike parking) Hyattsville Trolley Trail at Route 1
Mile 16 Vigilante Coffee (across Route 1 and down an alley to the left from Frankins)Long Route
Mile 4 Shortcake Bakery (pastries, coffee) — NW Branch Trail at Route 1
Mile 33 Historic Greenbelt Roosevelt Center (Coop Grocery, New Deal Cafe) — Crescent Road just past the Gas Station
Mile 39 Riverdale Market (beer on tap, snacks) — Queensbury Road at the railroad crossing
Mile 40 Franklins Restaurant (beer on tap, food, lots of bike parking) Hyattsville Trolley Trail at Route 1
Mile 40 Vigilante Coffee (across the street and down half block left alley from Frankins)Also note there are lots of fallen leaves on the trails since last week! Some will blow off in the wind today and or dry up in the sun Friday, but be careful for slippery spots on shady corners. I took this picture of another rider taking a picture of a jogger last weekend just after it rained.

Some of us from the BBBB group (it’s a secret society – ssshhh) will be rolling about 9:30 on the Honeycrisp. You can look for me or SarahBee or Boomer. I have bicycle icicles just below my saddle. And a brand new, bright, dynamo powered tail light.

ParticipantThe Cider Ride is now sold out, no waiting list. I procrastinated, now I’m sad.

ParticipantWell, you could always guerrilla ride with me if you want. I’m riding down from Proteus at 8:30 to the start, then turning around and doing the longer ride. Happy to guide the cue sheet-less. Just don’t drink the cider or eat the pie, and please remember to make a modest donation to WABA. Plus I might not head all the way back to the Dew Drop for the after party. But I probably will…
