Heh as soon as we parted this morning I realized I failed to mention, once again, how much I love that bike. CX single speed is definitely #1 on my list for next bike.
Ha! Don’t let dcv hear you say that ….

3.25 miles into my commute home, I could smell the incense from the temple when I took this picture
this is my old Rockhopper that I bought in 1992 – rode it a lot, raced it a bit, and now it’s one of my commuters

Took the opportunity to trade bikes with Will on the way back from FCCII. Love the RSX. The fit was just about perfect with no adjustments. The belt drive was super quiet. So light. This would be a lovely n+1!Anyone wanna meet at Haines next week for a little bike swapping?

ParticipantNow it’s game on! Here’s the corroborating evidence:

This was my first time on a Volagi, and probably 3rd time on a carbon frame – this thing was really smooth! I have (what is listed as) 28mm/32mm F/R tires on my RXS right now but this actually felt smoother. I also didn’t mind the 38mm bars at all after riding 42mm, wasn’t twitchy at all. Also my first time trying Bar Mitts as opposed to Moose Mitts (I had to swap to my less bulky gloves to fit my hands in).
This is really fueling my desire to get a nice riding carbon frame with disc brakes…

My Cinelli has 38mm bars. Feels weird when I ride it for a while and then ride my Cervelo (or vice versa), which has 42mm bars, but I’ve grown to prefer it and it makes me want to put 40s on the Cervelo.

I generally ride 40mm (center-to-center) but my CX bikes have come with 42mm, and then modern MTBs are crazy wide, so I’ve gotten used to wider bars as well as my default. I honestly don’t know what’s best but I don’t have wide shoulders. I think one day I’d like to try something with flared drops but normal straight-up hoods – I like where the hoods are but could see flared drops being a bit more comfortable/powerful.

Glad you liked it! The barmits are definitely tight over the hydro-disc brakes which are taller as you know. I have a lot more room in them when they are on the Viaje with mechanical discs. The tires I have on there are Schwalbe Durano 28s on alloy rims. Just image if they were carbon …..

ParticipantN=8 Dave’s Red Bike

I call my bikes by their model names mostly — the Viaje, liscio, el mar etc. Dave, not so much. He has the “red” bike and the “black” bike. I considered it progress when he started calling his new mountain bike the mountain bike and not the “silver” bike.
Also, it didn’t feel too bad out there until I turned into the wind!

This is my nicest, and least ridden bike. I really should ride it more – every time I ride it I’m amazed at how nice it rolls. Though I still managed to slide out once (on the trail near enough to a tree that I didn’t end up hitting the ground).

My folding bike that’s more of a mini-velo/travel bike. Did about 1000 miles on it when I first got it, but only gotten intermittent use since then. It had been sitting around for months without a left crank or pedals but I finally replaced the old chain on it today and adjusted a couple of other things, and it was once more a pleasure to ride. Has a slightly unusual 1×9 gearing (50T x 9-26).
