For this Pointless Prize, you log as many ride days on different bikes as you can, with a minimum of 2.0 miles in one day on a bike to count a bike, with the following rules:

    • You may only add to your n count by one bike per day.
    • You must submit [at least] one photo per bike that shows the bike (rider does not have to be included), and a brief description of the bike and your ride on the bike. Post submissions in this thread and feel free to edit existing posts to update your count. You can link to your Strava activity and add the photo(s) there, or just post text and an image/link to an image if you don’t want to use Strava – or you can use some combination thereof. (The mileage requirement is based on the honor system.)
    • Bikeshare systems count as one bike (each system can count separately). Exceptions may be made for say, the Cherry Blossom pink CaBi (bikeinbloom). Tandems, recumbents, unicycles, trikes and ElliptiGOs are allowed. Scooters, skateboards, roller blades, etc. are not. Trainer rides and stationary bikes do not count. Underground rides count as long as you have an accurate odometer AND include a photo showing the mileage on said odometer. Anyone submitting ELF rides will be summarily disqualified (just kidding… or not?).

This pointless prize/sidebet starts 1/27 – pre-dated rides during BAFS2016 do not count, sorry! You may (and are implicitly encouraged to) borrow team mates’ or fellow riders’ bikes.

Value of prize to be awarded will be a function of the number of participants, and the winning value of n. Prize will be split in the event of a tie, although bonus points may be arbitrarily awarded for unusual rides/bikes.

2008 Kona Major Jake with Nokian Hakkeplitta A10 700 x 32 72 Studs. Definitely not enough for the goddamn MVT which remains ungoddamnplowed. This bike and tires (which are really “studs-lite”) are happiest in fresh powder. When I went out at 12:05am last Saturday it was pure awesomeness. I just ordered some 45NRTH 700x38s which I think will be a little more hearty.

I’m looking forward to not riding studs. 8 days in a row I think, so far…

Will 38s clear that frame/fork? I’m assuming they’re for that bike.

I am assuming so – when I bought the bike off of ebay he shipped some 38s and 35s in the box along with the tires on the bike. So using that lazy af research I have deduced that, yes, they will fit! Possibly related: keep an eye out on DC Used for these tires in the next two weeks.

Snow on the margins but the roads were blissfully clear. Lovely morning for laps around Navy Federal. I’ve got the legs. Need to work on the lungs.

2015 Specialized Langster fixed gear with 23 slicks. Bike is too big for me but I love love love it so I am going to get a shorter stem and more narrow handlebars and make it work. Light sculpture in the picture is one of my favorite things in falls church – you can see it from Great Falls Street right past Lincoln Park.

I love that too, always wanted to stop and snap a pic!

Incidentally I feel like my Wabi fixed gear is just a little small… 2.0 mile pedal swap + ride swap sometime??

    n+1

    1/28/16-2/1/16

I took a trip to Maui for a friend’s 50th birthday party. She got me in touch with one of her friends who works at a local bike store, who provided me with this nice Specialized Tarmac. I got out every day on the long weekend here, but two rides really stuck out in my mind. The first was going north from the hotel, doing part of the very hilly northern coastal road, including the Honokohau Bay Wall (with one short 17% grade section). The other was heading south and exploring the Honokohau Ditch trail, a surprisingly nice bike trail out in the middle of nowhere.

This is a “GTR Series 1” road bike, with a bunch of upgrades made over the years. It was my first road bike/bike with drop bars and although it doesn’t get as much ride time as it used to, it still works pretty well for a road century. This was with the DC Randonneurs crew.

dcv is one of the best sources for n+1 that I know. A casual discussion at coffee one morning last fall about needing n+1 resulted in Vin finding me this within hours. I haven’t ridden it in awhile and almost forgot how fun it is. But no, I still don’t want to race Singlespeed cx.

Heh as soon as we parted this morning I realized I failed to mention, once again, how much I love that bike. CX single speed is definitely #1 on my list for next bike.
