I had a great time marshalling last year, meeting new folks, riding like a lead duck with little ducklings filing behind me. Wish I was going to be in town this year (work trip, boo). So, someone will have to take my place. Dirt needs someone to ride behind and blow the vuvuzela at…

It promises to a be a great time. Especially the family ride. And if you’re a marshall for the family ride, you don’t have to show up at 7:30am… ;-)

I’m looking forward to volunteering too. 7.30 am? M’eh. It will be good to be on the trail biking there before the trails get too crowded with weekend traffic. No wait, WE will be the weekend traffic!

Oh, hey, and its Octoberfest in Shirlington afterwards!!! http://www.capcitybrew.com/oktoberfest12.php

So it turns out that the AFR is *well* on its way to blowing past last year’s #s, and so I’d like to err on the side of caution by recruiting a few more ride marshalls. Any takers? Ride marshalls are best thought of as shepherds – they just apply the occasional light touch in order to keep the herd moving safely, and if things go wrong, they know who to call (me). Interested?

(Everyone who has already signed up to volunteer will be hearing from me later today. Thanks!)

I would, but I’ll have a kid in tow for the ride.

Ditto; also likely a wife in tow for the after-ride-festivities.

So sign up to marshall the family ride! I’m leading it, 8-months pregnant with a toddler, so it’ll be a gentle ride.

Because I don’t know what “later in the morning” means for the family ride start. After the main ride is over, or sometime earlier than that? We want to do the long ride.

Pssh, use him/her as a wheel stop in case of emergency!

(I figure if I keep saying stuff like this, I’ll never be asked to be involved again . . .)

But seriously, thanks. We could use more marshalls, but we’re not dangerously low or anything.

Thanks. I think that’s too close for comfort to plan on riding one and marshalling the second. The kid will want her rest stops.

The family ride leaves at 10:30am, but doing both isn’t really an option unless you’re fast and don’t dally at pit stops. You could do the hill-avoidance route: go on the main ride, enjoy the CC (and maybe Rosslyn) pit stop, then come back on MVT to do the family ride…

How far is the Family Ride at 10:30?

    Mark,

Just sent you a PM to make sure you have me on your list.
