Tour de Shenandoah (September 11-13, 2015)

Lauded for its breathtaking vistas, charming downtowns, and rich history, the Shenandoah Valley is a wondrous place for outdoor adventure and rural culture. The region is bounded by the two mountain ranges, spans more than eleven counties throughout Virginia and West Virginia and is best known today for its vineyards and farms.

Your tour of the Shenandoah Valley begins Friday night with a happy hour featuring local beer and wine. After a leisurely Saturday morning breakfast, we will ride up to the Luray Caverns. The Caverns features a variety of attractions, from museums and wine tasting to a garden maze and ropes course (additional fees apply). Or take a quick spin over to the Downtown Luray Historic District for some unique shopping or a rest in one of the parks along the Shenandoah River. We rejoin in the early afternoon for the ride back to the cabin. The evening concludes with a healthy dinner to fuel you up for the main event – the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition Century.

Bright and early Sunday morning we will depart for Harrisonburg, bike capital of Virginia and the start of the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC) Century. A pre-ride breakfast, snacks and post-ride meal are provided at the event. The 25, 50 and 100-mile routes all weave through scenic farmland on quiet, back country roads that are sure to offer a much needed reprieve from the frenetic hustle of the city. After the ride we’ll leave directly from Harrisonburg for our return home.

I won’t be able to do this one because of 50 States, but I just wanted to vouch for Venture Point trips! I did their Wine on Wheels in Shenandoah last fall and the Harper’s Ferry Trip over Memorial Day weekend and they were a BLAST! The girls are accommodating/encouraging to all types of riders and the food is plentiful and fantastic!
