I’m a big fan of the website veloviewer.com which does some cool visualization/data analysis stuff based on Strava’s data.
Recently, I’ve been obsessed with its idea of a ‘max square‘, which is calculated by creating a heatmap of all of your Strava activities and identifying the number of Google Maps tiles that you have covered. It’s a bit contrived, but after reading some stories about folks who have dedicated themselves to getting the largest possible ‘max square’ (http://blog.veloviewer.com/meet-the-explorers/) i’ve been trying to explore more and to plan rides that can increase my square. Here’s what I have so far:

Right now my score is 5, but I want to see how big I can make it by the end of the summer. The size of my square is limited to the West because I don’t have any activities around Bolling Air Force Base. Does anyone have any advice for how a civilian might be able to collect those squares? Right now my best plan is to borrow a kayak…
I know most of y’all bike a lot more than I do, so I’d love to see who around here has the highest score!
