ParticipantIt would be great to have bike boxes on Key Blvd to enable a Copenhagen left (stay on the right, wait for the light to change).

ParticipantOne easily-fixable problem at Veitch and Lee — the yellow for Veitch is too short for bikes, especially those who have to slow to turn onto the sidewalk to get to the Custis (I imagine that’s the majority of them).
I’ve been through there twice when the light has turned yellow — the first time, I was alone on my commuter (aka, fairly nimble) and the light turned yellow as I was maybe 20 yards from the stop line. Given the hill, I went through the light. If I had kept up my speed, I could have made it through the intersection easily BUT I had to slow to turn onto the sidewalk to get to the Custis. Not enough time to do that before Lee gets green.
On Sunday, I was again on Veitch, this time with the family on family bikes (dutch style with front seat & bakfiets). We were riding very conservatively, and braking down the hill. The light turned yellow when husband was already in the intersection and I was just over the stop line. So we kept going. Since we didn’t have a lot of speed, we didn’t make it through the intersection before Lee got green. I believe we were at the center lane.
BikeArlington folks – can you forward the complaint on to the traffic light timing folks.

ParticipantThanks Tim, can’t wait to use a big green bike box there.

I’ll pass it along, but you might have to take it up with VDOT.
