ParticipantMy old project office in Reston had no shower. Actionwipes were my go-to product, been a year without them and using competitors, but now they’re ramping production back up so I’ve got an order in for replacements.
My new project office in Herndon has a gym, but the sub-contractor business owner hasn’t signed the paperwork for employee (or, in my case, guest) access to it, so I’m still on the wipes-wagon. Not in a position push to for it, as I’m a non-paying guest in that office who isn’t required to be there, just likes to work with people on my team (and bike commute).

Yeah, well, it’s Tysons. Optimism comes to die here.
Worst case, I’ve heard good things about these: http://actionwipes.com/
I have to tread lightly here. I work for a small company, but I am new to this particular contract. Apparently the had to let a guy go the other week due to his hygiene issues.

Yikes.
Action wipes work well for this largish very sweaty man.
Finding a large/accessible bathroom stall for cleanup/changing after arrival is key, preferably in the common area. I shower before I leave, use industrial antiperspirant spray, always put clean cycling clothes on in the morning, carry all of my clean work clothes/shoes in rubberized drybags* on my cargo bike, cleanup (with actionwipes/otherwipes) and change in the largest bathroom stall I can find.
I end up putting the sweaty (and/or rained-on) cycling clothes/shoes back on for the ride home, but no one other than me has to deal with that (well, except for the occasional bike commuter evening meetup), and then I shower again when I get home.

* a non-cargo bike could probably do something similar with the waterproof ortlieb panniers. But you might want some smaller waterproof drybags for keeping sweaty clothes separated from other things in the ortlieb (or vice versa).

That was my MO before I discovered the bike room/showers at RRB. I had access to a small server room where I would hang the sweaty clothes to dry. I did that for a few months. One day some other people were going in there do something and the one guy said something like “We can go in here to [do whatever they were going to do], but it smells like a gym.” 😮 After I overheard that I just started leaving the sweaty clothes in my bag.

They should start requiring office towers to have a shower facility. How many people would start biking if the shower issue was fixed?
They mostly have: it’s in the “easy” category of LEED points.

Yep. And add a wheelbender rack in the parking garage and you’ve got yourself a certification!

Ah, this explains the glut of them in the Towers Crescent buildings.

ParticipantYep, I think new buildings of a certain size need to include a gym/locker room. Maybe that’s not Fairfax County though.
There is always the Hilton nearby.

So the building next door is “Park Place I” and I am in “Park Place II.” Apparently there is a fitness center in the other building. I might wander over and see if being in one building gets you access to all amenities.
Talk to the management company; I would be surprised if they didn’t give you building access. I had a similar situation while gym in my RTC office building was being repaired. So now I have access to two gyms/showers, which is nice if/when there are issues with our showers in the future.

Do they offer a “I just want to shower here” package. I have no intentions of going to a gym. Know what I am saying brah?

But you’d probably actually do that, costing more than the average gym customer who just gives them money and doesn’t show up.

ParticipantWell, the adjacent building is a no go, only people in that building can use the fitness center/locker room. Fitness center is behind a locked door
Weather is getting damn nice, too!

ParticipantI’ve got a meeting off of Spring Hill Road (south of Rt. 7) in Tysons tomorrow. Ideas on routes from Gallows and Old Courthouse there? I’m not seeing anything obvious. I’ve ridden on Gosnell before (which I did not like), but even if I rode Gosnell, there is a park in the way between Gosnell and behind Spring Hill road. It is out of the way to get to the Ashgrove trail, but might consider it if it would work.
I need to be somewhat presentable at this meeting, so I’m not inclined to break a path through the park or get lost. Given the expected heat, it might be a day I just can’t make this trip work.

Well, you could take the longer detour and take Kidwell across 7, to Tysons One Pl, to Westpark, around to Greensboro and Spring Hill. If it’s not during rush hour, the roads are generally fine. If it were me, I’d just ride up International Dr to Greensboro to Spring Hill, but I don’t know your comfort level with those types of roads (mine is pretty high).
