ParticipantI hope to have a Tweed Ride-appropriate ride one of these days, because I dig any and all social events that require dressing up in costume.

It appears to start at 1 PM, but darn if I can figure out where, unless we’re supposed to assume the ride starts at the same place it ends…

ParticipantIf it’s at 4pm like a little crazy drunken bird told me then I’ll probably be there.
/edit – I’m wrong, it’s definitely at 1pm. I’ll do my best…

Participantyeah, the ride starts at 1:00 but folks tend to start gathering around noon to flaunt their outfits and mingle. The starting location and route is kept secret. It is then emailed to all registered riders the day before. I believe this is for liability reasons as the organizers need to prepare for the amount of riders attending and prepare the authorities accordingly. I can tell you that in previous years we have started from Meridian Hill Park, but who knows this year. We are certainly ending at The Brixton and the party begins at 4:00.

ParticipantAfter a nice lunch at Birch & Barley my wife and I came across a bunch of old-timey looking people riding old-timey looking bikes. Turns out it was the meet up place for the TWEED ride! Here are some pics.

ParticipantThe best part of the Tweed Ride is the smiles it brings to passers-by who weren’t expecting to see hundreds of vintage cyclists roll by. It’s like tweed diplomacy. A few photos here: Taking to Tweed, Then the Streets.

ParticipantIs anyone doing the Tweed Ride this weekend? Here’s a photo link from a similar ride in Kyiv, Ukraine earlier this month. If anyone is interested in the 2014 Kyiv ride, just let me know next September.

Love it! I lived in Kyiv for a year, so I was glad to see some familiar spots included in their ride. If I win the lottery between now and next September, I’ll be game for a trip to Ukraine for the ride.
