Oh! You mean Pfunkallstar was wearing shorts? Huh.
I hate this time of year. I start out with all sorts of layers but about four miles into my ride I’m dripping with sweat.
At least I’ve retired the boots for the season.
But I seem to have an emotional attachment to my ear warmers. So no more stiletto healed demi boots like you had for Mardi Gras?

ParticipantI don’t fully retire ear protection until the days start above 60! Gloves, too. At least thin ones. Weenie? You bet, but warm ears and fingers keep this girl happy
A day like today can be tough. 55 and sunny — ah, but windy, too. Hmm. The core will warm up, especially with the sun, but with wind cold ears stay cold. No likey.

ParticipantDitto on the thin hat till 60 or so – it also keeps the wind noise down, which is a nice bonus. I saw a guy trucking on the MVT with a mesh tank top on yesterday, +1 for wishful thinking.

I admit a certain weakness for shoes. Today I wore these on the bike ride into work. I consider them a safety device.
And because the seasons changed I felt compelled to search for new higher, more sparkly, and more outrageous shoes to wear to match the rhinestone bike. I think Bike to Work Day will be the first opportunity I get to wear them.

ParticipantToday’s wind was exceedingly annoying since it seemed to be consistently coming from wnw, which is horrible if you’re coming up MVT then north up 15th, but I didn’t notice much wind chill. I actually went with shorts and was fine that way, but I don’t chill too easily.

As they were rolling off the assembly line, the Chinese workers kept saying to themselves, “who in the world wears these things?!”.

It was cold and straight in your face on the W&OD westbound. I actually stopped and popped a shell back on.

ParticipantThis evening wind was, I dunno, somewhat more than annoying but less than fully pitiable. Tried as I might going up 5th/6th (in DC), it was like the hand of God saying “Hah! No records for you today.” Sigh.

ParticipantRode out the C&O to White’s Ferry/Leesburg this afternoon and headed back to Arlington on the W&OD this evening. I think the C&O’s trees protected me from the brunt of the wind on the way out. Didn’t feel like it was blowing at my back too hard on the way back. Granted, maybe it was and I wasn’t as kick-butt as I thought I was today.

PS – anyone else see those shoes and think to themselves: “There’s no place like home!”

ParticipantI was trying to ride around Hains Point yesterday but the wind wasn’t helping. Neither was the fact that I did a 3-hr. run the day before. Talk about dead legs.
I also noticed that people on CaBi bikes were speeding right past me on the climb up 15th St. to the Washington Monument. I was on my mountain bike but I should be able to beat a casual cyclist riding a CaBi bike. But not yesterday.
For some reason I picked up a lot of energy later on. Maybe it was because I was no longer fighting the wind at East Potomac Park.
I thought it was neat to see all the tourists around the Jefferson Memorial. I just get a sense of energy from all the people travelling here from all across the country and from around the world. I remember what it was like to visit D.C. as a kid, before I became a permanent resident of the area. So despite the inconvenience of the large crowds, the tourists don’t bother me that much. Fortunately I haven’t encountered any of the rude ones. The high school kids are excitable and energetic, but they have largely been well-behaved. (I can’t speak for all of them though.) Most people seem to enjoy their sightseeing even though most of the cherry blossoms are gone at the Tidal Basin.

ParticipantI love the tourists.
1. They have maps. They give me directions when I get lost.
2. They are friendly. They allow me to see this area through fresh eyes and make me remember why I like living here.
3. Generally, they like DC and remind me how much I take for granted; Ben’s Chili Bowl, convenience of National Airport, Great Falls, Potomac Yards, the majesty of the Capitol Building.ann

ParticipantErrr, Potomac Yards????? The shopping center?
March 30, 2012 at 6:51 pm #938566acc
ParticipantYou’re right, I was thinking the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. The Yards Park.

ParticipantAlexandria is building a new park alongside the bike trail on Potomac Avenue, just south of the Potomac Yard shopping center. Probably still not the most impressive site in the area. But you can stop at the nearby Target, watch a movie or pick up a Garmin bike computer at the Best Buy. That has to count for something, doesn’t it?
