Anyone have status on Cap Crescent Trail being opened or closed? Rock Creek Park? MVT seemed open as normal. ART was open, but they disguised it as a sidewalk anyways, so they wouldn’t know to shut it.

I love that this forum is the first place I find out about the shutdown and opm and my agency still say we are open.

    Priorities, man.

Happy New (Fisal) Year everybody! I didn’t see much difference in traffic volume this morning with the first day of the USG “shutdown”? Guess everyone was coming in to get their furlough notices. I did my usual extended route using a mix of trails and they were all open. The parking lot entrance at Gravelly Point by Reagan-National Airport was closed off with yellow caution tape. However, the adjacent GW Pkwy and MVT were both open. I didn’t look at the bridge over to Roosevelt Island to see if the gate was closed, to much oncoming bike and and runner traffic. My office is still open since we are not funded through annual appropriations. For us the October 17 debt ceiling deadline is more of an issue.

Looks like the CCT is closed where it meets the C&O too.

Free food for those affected by the shutdown (or at least anyone with a government ID):

If they close the trails then wouldn’t they have to close all the fed highways too? We must insist on consistency!

I do not know the status of the NPS parkways.

Interstate highways, of course, are owned and operated by state govts.

I got on at Chain Bridge at 8:20 today and off in Georgetown and didn’t see any signs or barriers.

Breaking: Government shut-down leads to outbreak of poor grammar and punctuation.

Can we set up an impromptu Diamond Derby at Gravelly Point? Totally closed to cars, but the trail is open.

This was the running joke at our morning meeting. I guess whoever updates that message has been furloughed.
