Really, can you prove that wasn’t caused by bikes? Maybe fat bikes?

Worst part is that it seems to be the city’s own trucks destroying that trail to access material stockpiles that could be located elsewhere.

Given the condition of several roads I endure, I would not expect them to fix this anytime soon. But yah, vehicles on the MUPs do not help.

The APD and other Alexandria City staff find it perfectly acceptable to drive their cars and sometimes, backhoes on the trails. When asked about what they were going to do to repair the damage they had caused, no answer was forthcoming.

On Twitter, the Alexandria parks department promised repairs but didn’t respond to questions about moving the supplies or beefing up the trail: https://twitter.com/kidicalmassalx/status/559055555373699072

About two months ago, my wife was commuting to work using the Holmes Run Trail to get to the dirt path leading to Wheeler Ave through Tarleton Park. She happened to find a city staff member driving a backhoe along that dirt path. There was no construction going on anywhere along the trail that she could see so the only conclusion she could reach was that the person using the backhoe decided to take the ‘shortcut.’ We were appalled at this wanton disregard for city facilities on the part of staff.

To add to this, I regularly see tire tracks on the grassy areas of Tarleton Park and other parts of the Holmes Run Greenway.

Props to @kidicalmassalx for getting a much better picture than mine as well.
