    Hello —

In case you are out and about today or tomorrow, I will be doing trail counts for FABB at W&OD and Gallows from 5 to 7 pm today. I will be doing trail counts at the Custis Trail and the Ballston Connector tomorrow from 7 to 9 am. Feel free to stop and/or say hi briefly if you are passing through either of those spots. Maybe we can take a quick photo for the One Eight Sighting thread.

    Liz

Cross your fingers that VDOT found whatever died at that intersection- it was EVIL smelling on Monday (but seemed OK this morning). I’ll definitely stop and say hi if I’m not already through! (Blue/White kit, seriously dirty black ‘cross bike)

The Arlington County counts are going on tomorrow from 7am-9am and 4pm-6pm, so you might see people hanging out by the side of the trail then too!

If the weather holds out like today the counts should be fantastic.

The Mister and I will be out there in a super-secret counting location first thing tomorrow. In fact, it’s so super-secret, I forgot where we signed up to be. I hope he knows…

It should be found on one of the attachments to an email you received very recently (I should have noted that my foray to the Custis and Ballston Connector tomorrow will be on behalf of Arlington County).

It was a beautiful night to count cyclists, and nice to meet Guy Continental! (who I neglected to photograph for the One Eighth Sighting thread). For those of you who are curious, I counted 356 cyclists riding through the W&OD/Gallows intersection during my two hour shift.

Hope to see more of you in the morning.

And here I got dirty and everything for my photo! There was even blood running down my shoulder from hitting a tree in the park and mud on my nose… Sigh, next time I’m sure I’ll be all clean and stuff…

Thanks for volunteering, you had a primo day for it! Loads and loads of trail users of all kinds out there.

just saw this, sorry I must have ridden right past you. I don’t remember noticing anyone hanging out at that intersection. I must have been oblivious or day dreaming

A little factoid about the double diamond automatic counters on the trails – if you want to make sure your rides are counted by those, try to avoid riding across them right at or very close to the middle where the two diamonds intersect. Go for the wider parts. Counts add up to benefits for cyclists.

Thanks! I think about that exact question every time I ride over them!!!

I also wonder if it matters which side I ride over – if I’m going eastbound and move over to the left side and roll over the diamond on that side, does it mess up the trail counts? This happens often when I am crossing key bridge while passing pedestrians.

You’ll still get counted, just as a *gasp* pedestrian.

Yes, I saw a couple counting this morning. I was just wondering if they were forum regulars. Because I’m nosy.
