We’ve mentioned this one before, Arlington’s version of a speed bump. Kind of funny since that’s where they had there big trail opening dedication. They had to “fix” it almost as soon as it opened, but it quickly got into its current state again. I should think that’s Arlington County’s responsibility.

I concur that it is one heck of a jolt, esp if one is travelling at night and don’t see it ahead of time. I’ve had a few items go flying off my bike as a result. Ouch!

I’ve passed it along–I’ll let you know if I hear something. Thanks!

For the record, the name of the trail along Four Mile Run is…the Four Mile Run Trail.

Yeah, well some of us lose more than just things flying of their bikes….I wrecked at that “speed bump” on Sunday. Saved myself from falling over, but hit the metal fence and crushed my left hand while struggling to stay upright.

    No broken bones, but ow!

I really hate “THE BUMP,” and am so sorry that happened to you! I’ve mentioned it to BikeArlington and BAC folks a few times over the past couple of years, but maybe not to the right people or at the right times.

I’m glad others have brought it up as well and that Tim is looking into it. It’s showing itself to be a real hazard, even though it only really affects those heading eastbound, at least for now. It definitely should be fixed! I hope your hand feels better soon.

I hadn’t heard anything so I followed up again.

And as always, anyone can report a problem they find on the trails! Details in this post: http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?52-Report-a-Trail-Problem

Who maintains the trail along Four Mile Run between the end of the WO&D near Shirlington and the connection with the Mt. Vernon Trail along the river?

Reason for asking – the “joint” between the asphalt trail and the concrete elevated trail / bridge @ Four Mile Run Drive and S. Cleveland St. seems to be separating, such that, going eastbound, riders get a pretty solid impact going over the connection. It would be great to get that attended to before it gets worse. Who’s the boss of that part of the trail?

Would be the end of the Washington Old and Domminion Trail?

    Thanks, Tim.

I did report the accident as well, and posted it as a hazard to Bikewise

Rootchopper, it’s east of the end of the W&OD – and is marked as the 4 mile run trail.

There has been some recent movement on this.

Staff has been looking into “warranty” options with the Four Mile Run trail settling in multiple areas and requests have been put in to have it fixed.

Yeah, I know. Just annoyed by the WO&D that I hear all the time.

Didn’t the 4 Mile Run Trail used to be called the Anderson Trail?

Someone asked me if they were on the ‘Wod’ the other day and I nearly fell off my bike before I figured out what they meant.

Safety first–hands on the handlebars please!

Also, a work order has been created for a couple spots along the trail. Let me know if you notice fixes in a couple days!
