The concert will take place somewhere on the National Mall on Tue. Nov. 11, from 7 pm to about 10 pm. Performers will include Bruce Springsteen, Rihanna, Metallica, Dave Grohl, Eminem and Carrie Underwood. The list of speakers includes Steven Spielberg, Jamie Foxx, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep and John Oliver.
Metro doesn’t seem to have had advance notice. They will handle the event traffic as they would other large events, like Independence Day. There could be as many as 800,000 people for the concert.
I don’t know if there will be more than one stage, or where the exact location is. Expect similar obstacles as you might face on the Fourth of July, with road closures in central DC. At the same time, some of the roads will likely be closed off to car traffic, at least for part of the day. That means another informal ciclovia. Constitution Ave. becomes a 60-ft wide bike path on Independence Day. There could be super-wide bike paths on Nov. 11, although the switch to Standard Time and the shorter November days means that sunset will be around 5 pm that day.
