ParticipantThat is still one butt ugly site though.
Too bad some of that stimulus money didn’t go to getting rid of those horrendous jersey barriers. Send them back to Jersey!

ParticipantThose trash bags (?) look handy for a nice soft crash landing when trying not to run into the Jersey barriers…

The traffic cones at the Jefferson have been absent for most of the week.
It is important to note that in spite of the absence of the cones, the Republic stands!
Actually, they’re lurking behind the trash bags, lulling you into a false sense of euphoria.

ParticipantThey seem to have improved the placement though. Maybe the message has sunk in.

ParticipantThey’re back with a vengeance. Right in the crosswalk. This morning there was even an officer parked in his car right next to them, so I couldn’t even kick one out of the way as I rode by.

I saw them this morning, since it was one of the rare times I took the Geroge Mason Memorial Bridge into work. The cop wasn’t there, though — he was sitting in his car in the tunnel under the Humpback Bridge.

On the bikepath?

ParticipantThe cones were creeping forward to their old locations. One was observed, albiet temporarily, in the other crosswalk at the closed end of the Jefferson. I have it on excellent authority that a cyclist was observed plucking it from the path and hurling it to a place of safety behind some of the jersey barriers on the lawn.

Save the cones!
Did you notice the fancy new paint job they did on all the jersey barriers?

ParticipantI noticed that on the way home. The drop cloths were still on the sidewalk. I suppose I would be happier if there was a plan to eliminate the barriers from around the monument. As much as I dislike bollards, if there were a row of them in the lawn as an alternative to the jersey barriers, I could live with that.

Yes, on the river side. He seemed to have driven through from the marina side and was sitting “blocking” the river side of the tunnel, the car’s trunk still in the tunnel. There was just enough room to pass. (A couple of months ago I saw a NPS police car drive through the southern tunnel.)
