Thought I’d start this thread as a place to post event invites for Tour watching parties. I seem to recall that ACA tends to host a queen stage party at Rhodeside Grill every year, and that NVCC usually puts on something at Sonoma (proceeds to benefit the juniors racing program). A couple/few years back a couple of us hosted a stage watching gathering at O’Sullivans, and maybe that could happen again.

Anything on your calendar this year? Have you already given your IT guys whatever it takes to get them to overlook the 4 hours of streaming bandwidth you’ll be using at work every morning for three weeks straight?

It was not at our request, it was at their insistence because they knew we were coming. I’m certain we could get them to put it on for us again and will happily set something up once we get back on the 6th. Any preferences on what stage/day?

No preferences really – a day towards the end of the week and and stage towards the end of the tour probably works best I guess? Not like we really need good reasons anyway.

Surprised there isn’t more interest in this thread.

Anyone else get a little motion sickness watching the descents on the TdF coverage?

A couple of the the Tour riders are uploading to Strava, which is kind of fun. It’s crazy to see their rides displayed in the same format as all of my pokey noodling around town.

I rode this segment last summer at 11mph. The Tour riders today took it at 36mph, but I think that’s because their bikes had a stronger top tube than mine did.

Stage 2 and 3 finishes were amazing! I especially loved the dog on stage 2. And I wasn’t all that displeased to see Sagan nipped at the line yesterday.

Looking forward to Stage 5 tomorrow (perfectly timed for my mid-morning 2nd breakfast/1st lunch break).

Video of the dog on the road in Stage 2 (Sunday, June 30). For those who didn’t see it before, don’t worry. The dog managed to escape unharmed. But just barely.

    “Ah, fruit!”

Did anyone else see the behind-the-scenes segment about Orica Greenedge? They showed the team directors as they were driving in the support car during the first stage, when the team bus ran into the metal structure at the finish line. They had subtitles onscreen during the segment. Whenever one of the guys would curse, the word would be bleeped out and the subtitles would read “Fruit”.

    I found the video:

The first instance: 0:56 to 1:07. Another shortly after 1:20. And so on.

Oh that’s absolutely brillant. I feel bad for the mechanic in back having to hold on to wheels for his entire ride.

Fruit!!! Definitely a word to add to the forum’s lexicon.

Apparently this was the in-race diet of Lucien Buysse, the 1926 winner of the Tour de France:

    – raw eggs, raw meat, leg of chicken, and a stick of butter!

If I only ate that and nothing else, I think I’d be incapacitated for 48 hrs. due to… stomach distress.

    Hi folks,

An update to my team’s Tour viewing event and fundraiser this upcoming weekend.
    – We’re watching Stage 15 (longest of this year’s Tour) this Sunday, July 14th at the Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse. Door 7pm, show starts at 8pm.
    – We’ll have raffles for lots of gear from our sponsors (Formula Brakes, Beet It, SRAM, KMC Chains, Mad Alchemy and more) as well as silent auctions for a week at 2 different NC beach houses, tune-ups from Trifecta Tuning (ask me about them if you haven’t heard), and O’s tickets.
    – Proceeds benefit Companions for Heroes, an organization that matches shelter companion dogs with veterans and active duty military facing psychological challenges resulting from their service.

Tickets are FREE (with a suggested donation), but you do need one so we don’t overbook the venue. → Reserve your seats here.

If you have any folks who you think might be interested, please feel free to share the attached flyer.

Dan Martin’s GarminConnect data from his win on Stage 9.

21mph avg, over 105 miles and 13k+ climbing. Top speed was 64mph! Sadly, no power data is included…

Some riders in the Tour de France have passed 70 mph in the past. Now that’s scary!

Here’s a behind-the-scenes video from Team Europcar. Since the entire video is in French, you won’t understand anything (unless you parler français). But it’s still interesting to see what the cyclists do in the hours that they aren’t out on the course. Even with the long stages, they still spend the majority of each day not racing.

Anybody from the forum plan on attending this (aside from Txgoonie of course)?
