ParticipantI would love to get a gathering together for one of the mountain stages… probably stage 18…. looks epic! I also host a fantasy league on RCUK’s site for some of my friends…. mostly bragging rights. If anyone wants to join let me know, or I could set up a BA league as well if we get a bunch of us.. here is the link to the site and rules: http://rcuktourdefrance.fantasyleague.com/Index.aspx

ParticipantSince I won’t be able to bike during most the race the least I can do is follow it while “enjoying” the trainer. But I have no other plans yet, wonder if we could get Westover to host a viewing (last HH they had the Tour of California on the outside TV – at our request, I assume).
This and the World Cup are the only 2 sports events for which I’ll use hours of daytime streaming bandwidth (and occasionally an AFL game).

ParticipantI would be up for throwing in a bonus Kidical Mass ride where we meet at a playground, bike a few miles, and end up somewhere where we can watch some Tour.
Any suggestions for good days to do that? Any suggestions for places to watch? I know Ireland’s Four Courts in Arlington has shown it in the past, and I could do a route to there pretty easily…

ParticipantGo on, then, Dickie, post up your roster so we can pick it apart

Dasgeh – If you wanted to move it to South Arlington, P. Brennan’s appears to be cycling friendly, and it doesn’t get much more bike-friendly than the folks across the street from there (Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse – thinking of the bar attached to it).

I’d love to. I don’t have time to do due diligence on dates/times. Does anyone know which day (July 6/7/13/14/20) and time we should aim to get there?

ParticipantI’d be interested in something up until the 10th, then it’s my prep for actually going to France on the 12th.

ParticipantLook for me and Meg on TV while watching stages 4 and 5! We’ll be back for the later stages, so I’m up for a viewing party or three.

Sweeeet.
I’d like a Vini Farnese bottle, please. I’m sure they’ll be hard to find, though.

It was not at our request, it was at their insistence because they knew we were coming. I’m certain we could get them to put it on for us again and will happily set something up once we get back on the 6th. Any preferences on what stage/day?

ParticipantMy team is hosting a viewing at the Arlington Cinema Drafthouse for Stage 15 on Sunday, July 14th 7:00pm. It’s a fundraiser for Companions for Heroes. Mountain stage, longest of this year’s tour. We’ll have raffles and a silent auction. Details are still rolling in, so I’ll update once I know more.

Maybe on the morning of the 14th (sorry txgoonie – stealing your idea)? I could do next weekend, too, though it sounds like you guys are out of town? Biking to their butcher’s brunch sounds like fun.

ParticipantEven the WashPo is reporting on where to watch: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/going-out-guide/wp/2013/06/28/watch-the-tour-de-france-without-breaking-a-sweat/?hpid=z10

ParticipantThere’s a write up in the WashPost today about the TdF:
“Most bars have access to the NBC Sports Network, but Meridian Pint is one place where you’ll never have to ask a bartender to put the cycling on. The Columbia Heights bar will continue its tradition of showing the nightly Tour de France recap show, which begins at 8 p.m. (Most live coverage is broadcast before the bar opens. If the network decides to re-air full stages, as they are with a 12:30 p.m. showing of Stage 2 on Sunday, you may be able to watch those, too.)”
“If you’d like to watch while socializing with some die-hard cycling enthusiasts, the local Potomac Pedalers group has organized a Tour de France viewing happy hour at the Rhodeside Grill on Thursday, July 18. They’ve timed it for the 18th stage, from Gap to Alpe-d’Huez, which contains two punishing climbs into the Alps. The group will provide appetizers, and drinks are a la carte. Screening begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 9:30.”
