My daughter and I just got our keys today. The bikes work great, are very solid, and the three speed Nexus shifters seem appropriate for these bikes. Because we live in Crystal City we look forward to using these bikes frequently over the next year. I do wonder how the bikes will be protected from the winter weather as at the stations I’ve visited there is no shelter from precipitation and high wind. There are some areas that would provide better shelter from weather, such as under highway overpasses.

The bikes are designed to be heavy duty and live outdoors year round. Systems in other cities like London and Paris also have similar challenges with winter weather, but Montreal’s system is packed up and taken offline during the winter. The operations team will be checking the bikes regularly to make sure they are running smoothly.

Only time will tell how well they hold up, but hopefully they won’t fade like the SmartbikeDC bikes did!

I sure hope so. Those bike look like garbage now. Although, I still hope to acquire one when the system is shut down (if it ever does).
