Yeah, me too, especially since I haven’t fixed my brake yet

That’s why I brought my new 700c pontoon attachments to work today.

ParticipantI rode home through the worst of it last night. No twisters, but it was coming down hard enough that my camera couldn’t focus.

ParticipantFlash flood watch until 5:30, hahahahaha, false. I drove in yesterday per planning to meet a friend for drinks. Dropped the friend off en route home in Arlington and took the Parkway home. I ran into highwater twice and an area I decided not to attempt just off the parkway around 8:30pm. Thankfully the vehicle rides high, but I did watch two cars stall out trying to move through probably almost two feet of moving water. I wanted to ride in, but it’s probably for the best I didn’t because I would have been riding home during the last horrible downpour around 8pm and along the river the whole way…so more then likely I may have been able to test the buyoancy of my bike.

I rode into my class in Old Town at 7pm. There was a nice temporary pond in the flats just north of belle haven marina, but no water on the trail yet (or really close to it) at that time. I can’t report on later, though– for the way home, I took the ramp to Rt.1=>Fort Hunt and avoided the trail. I was carrying home some finished work– ceramics– so I’m pretty sure I’d have sunk like a stone (or, um, stoneware) had I had to test out my buoyancy. Didn’t figure trying it out would be very smart.

It says FLASH FLOOD WARNING until 5:30 pm. That was specific to the round of storms that rolled through around 4pm. Other flash flood warnings were issued as the second round of storms hit in the evening. I believe the FLASH FLOOD WARNING issued for those storms lasted until 11pm.

ParticipantJust getting this out there early….
We’re in a slight risk for severe for tomorrow afternoon/evening, and for Thursday there’s an expectation that SPC will put us in a moderate risk category. Right now it’s slight. Yesterday was a slight risk and there were 3 confirmed tornadoes as well as lots of localized flooding in the area, so definitely take any storms that develop seriously. If you want to limit time on metro, the early assessment would be to ride tomorrow and metro Thursday.

ParticipantOne of the local meteorologists even used the dreaded “D” word (as in “derecho”). They aren’t saying that will happen Thursday, but there could be a slight chance of it happening.

ParticipantSnapped my seat post bolt during the ride home in one of yesterday’s downpours. 2 miles, soaked,
riding while standing to get home last night (before the tornadoes though!).
Stem is getting replaced under warranty (small victories), so i’m not able to ride for the next week
until the new stem comes in. You guys and gals ride safe!
Tell me the tales of your rides so I can bike vicariously through all of you!June 12, 2013 at 1:57 am #972624PotomacCyclist
ParticipantIf you’re not already a member, this would be a good time for a CaBi membership. Maybe a 3-day membership.
