Report from a friend is that the W&OD Wilson tunnel is flooded to hub level right now. Maybe cross at street level.

I made it home without a drop of rain — but a torrent came down just after I opened the door to my house. FMR near the MVT was fine at 5 pm and the torrent appears to have been a short-lived one.

I hope everyone makes it home alright!

Rode the Custis->W&OD from Stafford in Ballston to Great Falls in Falls Church City between ~1720 and 1745. Unremarkable all the way – just some puddles – but there are some strong cells on the radar headed up from the SW as of ~1810.

That was one disappointing ride home. No floods, no downed trees or power lines – just rain, and even that was for only a mile or so. I want my money back!

On my ride home yesterday, I got soaked the first time by Reagan National about 5:20, but the trails were all clear. His Oneness passed me on the W&OD at Columbia Pike. Both the Carlin Springs and Wilson underpasses were clear as I rolled through and I decided to add some miles and got soaked the second time on the Custis at about 6:00 PM. I called it a night when the thunder and lightning started around 6:20. After the heavy downpour between 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm, I went out to haul our recycling and trash bins back up the street after they had washed down the hill. I kept going and walked the W&OD from Ohio to Wilson. 4 Mile Run was at the second highest level I’ve seen in the six years I’ve lived next to it. Bon Air Park was flooded and the water going under the Wilson underpass was about three feet below the road (meaning about five feet deep on the trail and moving fast).

This morning thing’s looked relatively normal riding along Williamsburg, but the traffic light at Yorktown and Harrison was just flashing at about 7:30 am. There was a hugh tree down in someone’s yard at the corner of Jefferson and 3rd St S in Glen Carlyn. As I headed towards Columbia Pike on the 4MRT, the first crossing near 9th St S still was completely flooded to a depth of about five inches, the second crossing was blocked on the west bank by a berm of sand and stones about four feet wide and twelve inches deep, and finally, the crossing under Columbia Pike was completely blocked by a downed tree (the root system was across the trail, and the crossing was also still flooded. There was another downed tree about ten feet further upstream
