However, the drain in the dip in the Custis just east of the 3 milepost was clearly clogged and there was a ten foot wide pond of six inch deep water covering the trail.
Is that between Calvert and Adams? There was a big puddle at the bottom of that dip, and probably deeper than 6″ at 9:15am. It was fun (through probably dumb) to blast through. Had me laughing the rest of the way to work. It was a great morning to bike in!

ParticipantToday I discovered that water pools somewhere in my helmet when it’s raining, which was entertaining at the end of the ride
At least it was nice and warm from being on top of my head! Also, Belgian tan lines are hard to scrub off.
(well, more like Belgian freckles.

Uneventful ride in. We will see what the ride home brings. Last time we had torrential rains, the first crossing looked like this:

Since I was heading to FFII this morning, I skipped the W&OD/4MRT underpasses. However, the drain in the dip in the Custis just east of the 3 milepost was clearly clogged and there was a ten foot wide pond of six inch deep water covering the trail.
Dickie and I were debating the wisdom of riding to Crystal City the afternoon to pickup our ride packets for Sunday’s Challenge Cup.
No to hijack but how bad would the lines be if I picked up my packet Sunday at 6 am?

I’m riding over there in a bit (hoping to get there right around 2PM to avoid lines). Will try to report on MVT trail status. (That will probably be via Twitter: @Bilsko)
My experience has been that there will be lines even at 2 pm when they open up… Enjoy the ride. It is a blast!

Thanks for the head’s up – I may hold off until 2:30 or so. It’ll be a bit of work schedule / radar-watching / need-to-get-home-by decsion making.

ParticipantJust came off a very very wet ride to Purcelsville and back- no lightning anywhere, almost zero wind but 4MRT is already impassible at Bluemont and was within a few inches of being on the trail at Rt 50.

From the radar, it looks like we’ll be getting some heavier rain over the next couple of hours, so I think I’ll avoid 4MRT and the W&OD between Glencarlyn and East Falls Church.
