Today’s Wash Post Article — Cycling’s road forward

If and when cycling/bike riding is as taken for granted in these United States as vacuuming is, or as bike riding is in the NL or Denmark, I will be unconcerned with the tendency of non-cyclists/nonbike riders/cagers/whathaveyou to identify cycling/bikeriding with racing.

It may be that the equation of cycling = racing (with other words for “non sport” riding) does not get in the way of the cultural shift from where we are, to Copenhagen. I’m not sure though.

None of which means I am against articles about racing, of course.

The headline might’ve been “Racing’s Road Forward” for a bit more accuracy (and added awesome alliteration!) — but other than that, I thought it was a fun sports article and a great use of the online medium.

Then all the NASCAR fans would be up in arms. Being from Charlotte, I can tell you that lots of this country thinks “racing” = NASCAR.

I knew a PA redneck in college who swore up and down that NASCAR racing was the purest form of sport. Ummm…. really? Hah!

Fortunately aside from that ridiculous claim he was a pretty smart guy.
