ParticipantYou haven’t missed much. The last couple of days weren’t great for riding. I think a lot of riders have cut back on their mileage since the National Bike Challenge ended. I thought you worked in SW, I didn’t know it was at the Navy Yard. When a tragedy hits close to where you live or work it’s normal and right to re-examine what’s important and how to spend your time. I think you’ve made the right choice.

ParticipantThanks for checking in, Mikey. From this seat, it looks like you’re doing things right. When stuff gets crazy, we all need to do what we need to do to maintain balance in our lives. Hang tough, sir. Great thing about riding is that it’ll be here when you’re ready.
So will we.
Rock and roll.

ParticipantNo need to apologize, Mike! Take care and so glad you are okay. Enjoy your family. We’ll see you out there one of these days!

ParticipantYeah, absolutely no need to apologize. Family comes first. We’ll be here to chat and ride when you’re ready.

This has been the toughest fall I can remember. I’m sorry.
Sometimes the best thing to do is get out there and tell yourself you’re going to ride five miles. Just five.
Being outside, pedaling, having control over the bike, makes a lot of painful stuff go away.

ParticipantSometimes that’s just the way it is. We’ll see you around.

ParticipantYou’re doing the right thing, Mike. People are more important than miles. I forget this myself sometimes, and it’s good to have a reminder.

ParticipantNo worries. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

ParticipantYep, more ideas — both the College Park Days 11am and DC Monuments 6pm rides that I’m helping with this weekend are suitable for family-ness.
I have been pretty disillusioned by the political craziness, and it’s affecting my fitness. Too many empty calories and not enough time on the road = 5 lbs more than should be the case.

ParticipantEssigmw would have never stopped riding!
Seriously though, I don’t think you should ever ride when you don’t want to. It’s not work after all! Making choices to balance out life is always hard, and making the choice to spend more time with your family is probably always the right choice. If you caught the Manning family’s 30for30 on ESPN, I though Archie had a pretty good line that, “I’ve never regretted time that I spend with my kids.” Seems like that’s about the right idea.
