I’ve got a friend who has only recently taken up bicycling, and so is now getting into his first night cycling. I’m thinking about sending him to this. Do they have lights that would actually enable him to see on a dark trail, or is this basically blinkies to enable him to be seen?
They’re blinky lights, and so are good for being seen, but not for lighting up a dark trail. Still better than having no lights at all!

ParticipantI can commit to Wednesday, on the Pike, as quickly as work will let me break free and grab the (ready to run fast at night) Trek…

The forecast for Monday and Wednesday look pretty good right now (at least accoring to Weather Underground).
High of 66 on Monday, mostly sunny
High of 71 (Yippee!) on Wednesday, mostly sunny 😎October 29, 2015 at 1:33 pm #1040238PeteD
ParticipantThis was so much fun — you should definitely volunteer to help!

ParticipantIf the Custis is anything like 11th St NW today, there will be plenty of people to talk to tonight. A little damp, but great biking weather.

ParticipantHey y’all! Just a reminder that we are ON for tonight. We’ll be at the Bikeometer in Rosslyn from 4:30-6:30 PM. High 50s for temps and plenty of high fives and lights to be given to trail users!
Weather also looking pleasantly fall for Wednesday night at the W&OD and Columbia Pike, 4:30-6:30 PM as well. Fingers crossed we can all try the new Learners Loop, too!
See ya soon!

ParticipantThanks for doing this, folks! It’s always appreciated!
I just wish I’d asked for a handful of blinkies to hand out to the multiple trail ninjas I passed as I made my way home after visiting the table.

ParticipantAs of 6:00pm today, the fencing is still up at the bike park @ Columbia Pike and W&OD. Available space looks very cramped on that side.
Maybe the gods will pull the fencing during the day tomorrow??? (Am I guilty of Wishful Thinking or what?)

In past years I have taken an extra 6-10 lights, which I then give to riders I encounter who have no lights. I always run out. It’s just part of the innumerable, invaluable services I provide.
In fact, last night I stopped at Whole Foods on my way home. A bike was locked up with no lights or light mounts. So I put a front and rear blinky on it. Merry Christmas, courtesy Bike Arlington, dark biker person.
