Thanks everyone for the welcome and the links to resources. And wow, looks like good bright lights don’t come cheap. My current front light is a Knog similar to this one: http://www.knog.com.au/gear-lights/skink.phps – not bright enough to comfortably see on unlit trails at night. Guess it’s time to save up the pennies.

Resurrecting this, since my wife was wondering if/when we’re going to resume this hallowed tradition. My vote is for “immediately”, but I know organization takes a lot of time and effort, so I don’t want to rush it. I’m also wondering, now that we’ve had some experience with this, if we should do sort of a “Tour of Arlington” theme, with happy hours in different neighborhoods (insert shameless plug for Westover). Of course, we could include DC as well. I also think we should do some sort of Hains Point picnic/ride at some point. Anyway, just my thoughts…

Didn’t we just have happy hour yesterday? What’s wrong with you? I’m not a machine!

Actually, I’m just kidding, I’m going to a different happy hour tonight (kids happy hour at The Reef in Adams Morgan, the greatest thing to happen to parenting since ever). I’m always in favor of happy hour.

We have taken polls. We have done surveys. We have discussed this at length.

In the end, it comes down to this: Who steps up to the plate and volunteers to organize. Kathy is our bestest – does a great job – and organizes in her ‘hood. And the Shirlington once a month gig is very consistent with feedback from the peanut gallery.

But all of you thoughts…. EXCELLENT. Volunteer. Do it.

The only thing holding happy hours back from any other location, form, latitude, or altitude…. is someone else stepping up to the plate.

Great ideas – go for it! Some places may not require much organization. Cap City requires some because the outdoor tables are on peoples’ covet lists during the nice weather. All should feel free to put these together anywhere they like.

Open tables may be easy to find if the dreaded cicadas are on time this year. Am SO not looking forward to them.

Westover beer garden would be perfect. We just have to wait for, you know, spring. The spring with the warm temps. I like the rotating idea. If people want, I’ll start a sign up thread where someone can pick a thursday for their neighborhood and be responsible for setting it up. That work?

Love everything about all these ideas. Count me in, I’ll plan something in Clarendon or a tail…. Err wait…. Rack gate at Graverly… Pretty certain I can get the Coleman grill and beer brats on the bike somehow!

my mind is turning at a thousand RPM. We so need to do TwoWheelsDC’s idea of the Hains Point Picnic. I’m imagining the best bike-to pot luck EVER.

These posts make me smile. We have such a great group of people on this forum! I love that people want to get us together for more fun things in different parts of the area, not only for the variety, but also so more people can participate.

p.s. I’m happy to set up some Cap City ones too.

We had a similar conversation last year, and took a poll and tabulated results (normally, I exaggerate – this time I am not). Here were the results of that poll:

    * Closer to the river is good (Shirlington, G’Town, Rosslyn….)
    * Once a month is good.

And then last year it all came down to simply someone stepping up to volunteer to organize. And last year it was a hostest with the mostest, Kathy

I might also note that the Freezing Saddles happy hour almost did not occur because no one was stepping up to volunteer to do it…. until Kathy once again volunteered (and did a fabulous job).

Bottom line: If you want an all Pink happy hour, located in your ‘hood, that takes place on the 2nd Tuesday of the Third Month after a full moon when Congress is in session – dont talk about it – volunteer to do it.

I think that’s what I’m trying to do on the Social Calendar Thread. I am trying to provide a thread for folks to volunteer to take one of the Thursdays throughout the summer and provide a location. This way, Kathy doesn’t have to set up every Thursday thru the whole summer, and each month, we’ll have a different location to visit.

Does this work for everyone? Honestly not trying to step on anyone’s toes, just trying to make it easy to lift the burden off of one person.

    Hey Everyone.

The next installment of our Third Thursday Happy Hour will be held on Thursday July 18th at Northside Social in Clarendon, VA between 5:00 and 8:00 pm, although you are welcome to arrive early and stay late. We will have some tables reserved outside and there is plenty of seating indoors if the weather does not cooperate. On this particular Thursday they will have a BBQ pit set up and approximately three beers on tap on the patio itself. The BBQ on Thursdays usually consists of either home made pork sausage and hanger steak but I am not certain it is the same every time, they also have a bunch of sides. If you have a more particular palette or want to drink wine or a different variety of beer you can also step inside and order from the counter. There is a decent amount of bike parking directly in front, and some additional parking across the street. There is also a very large covered bike parking facility outside the Clarendon metro just a block away.

    Looking forward to seeing everyone,

    – Dickie

PS. I might have a few handlebar mustaches to give away to early arrivals and last to leave
