Key would provide more shade, but more stop signs.
Ah. I’m not crazy about stop signs. But I can’t ignore the sun.

So, coming up Veitch from the Custis, is it better to take Wilson the whole way or take Key as far west as possible?
If you already use Key as a substitute for Wilson, stay on it and swing a left on Highland to Wilson then up 2 blocks to NSS. 13th, the other backroad, is a mess from construction.

ParticipantY’all have fun now. I can’t even get away for my pint at Upland.

ParticipantThe only stop sign on Key is at Highland. The cross streets have stop signs at the roundabouts. Not that drivers on the cross streets understand what this means…

ParticipantI’m gonna try to get there around 5:30. The wife is driving into Quincy park and pulling the bikes off the car (kids bikes too). I will ride up the Custis to Quincy to meet her then double back down Fairfax Drive to NSS. See you there!

You’ll probably run into the eBaks on Quincy. PM if she wants to park at our place (just N of the Custis — completely unnecessary, but she would have a bathroom, toolkit, place to wait if necessary)

ParticipantPretty serious thunder rumbling over Foggy Bottom right now…looks clear over ArlCo though….

ParticipantHow about Custis, Calvert, Lee H, Highland? Disrecommended?

That was thunder? I was hoping just rumbling of trash carts or something …

That’s what I thought initially, because I was near our loading dock at the time, but then I looked outside and it was most definitely thunder.

Weather.com tells me 23 mph winds from ENE!! That should push me right over to HH!! Oh, yeah, it also says “heavy” t-storms… I wonder what that means…

ParticipantI was a little worried because all of the sudden it was like 75% chance of tstorms, but they seem to have passed south of me. Ride home was hot, but nice–and the trails were empty.

ParticipantThanks to all for happy hour. I had a lovely time UNTIL i got to the L St cycletrack and [long string of colorful expletives deleted]. I was going along fine – one cabbie infringing on the lane but moved over when he saw me. Then. THEN. Some guy in a Honda Civic, MD plate 3BC0682 was parked in the lane. He got out of the the car and came around to let someone out, though what professional driver has a Civic? I don’t know. As I pulled up, he was completely blocking the bike lane.
“That’s not a parking space”, I said. He AND his passenger both proceeded to flip out on me. I can’t even put into words how livid i am. I wish I was quicker to put my thoughts into words (Though clearly I’m demonstrating that even given time I can’t do it), because I couldn’t really say anything witty or biting or told the both of them how they were terrible human beings.
It’s terrible because I feel so helpless. I can’t do anything meaningful. Both of those two despicable [expletive deleted] have probably already forgotten.
At least I didn’t curse or threaten or anything. Sometimes I at least manage to partially channel Dirt.

ParticipantThere’s got to be someplace where you can send the photo. DC MPD? This is for Arlington bike lanes, but there may be one for DC (heck, I’d still post it): http://arlingtonbikelaneblockers.tumblr.com/
Would have been nice to have their reaction recorded then posted to the WashPost. One can dream…

There’s one that was made specifically for the L Street cycletrack: http://whosblockinglsttoday.tumblr.com/
