ParticipantVery interesting article. I was almost purple when I got home after a ride around noon in the heat and humidity and against the headwind yesterday. I’m looking forward to getting better acclimated!

The part of the diagram labeled “Extreme: 3.7 quarts”? That’s me.

I thought that the bit about the salt volume in sweat was really interesting- I never used to have the eye-burning sweat thing (even riding in Phoenix); now I do and it really sucks. Hopefully when I acclimatize I’ll cease having to dump precious agua in my eyes in Vienna…

ParticipantHow did they measure how much Salazar sweat out? 😮

Funny all the Gulf Coast folks – I’m (most recently) from Tampa. I don’t miss April through October. The other months were quite nice though.

I get a ballpark figure of how well I hydrated during a ride by weighing myself before and after a ride. I did really well on Sunday. It was a dang hot day and I weighed in about a pound lighter than before I left. I’ve had days where I get dehydrated and come home 5 pounds light.

I think we had discussion on this last summer, but worth repeating in my opinion: headsweats or “halo” headbands work great to keep the sweat from pouring down your face at stoplights (or just on really hot days period).

ParticipantI always wear Halo headbands in hot weather, while cycling or running. They help a lot but some sweat still gets in my eyes. They keep out most of the sweat but not all of it.

ParticipantI have giant bushy eyebrows, which really help keep the sweat out of my eyes. What I need is something to keep the sweat from dripping off my chin onto my shorts, which I find irrationally annoying.

I thought the headsweats were a stupid gimmick, then I tried them. You couldn’t pry mine away now in the summer.

Don’t give in to the blob. Long khaki pants and a polo shirt are all any commuter needs.

Biking isn’t proper without a tie. Albeit, said tie can be cinched firmly around the forehead region thus killing the proverbial two birds with one stone of multitasking. Disclaimer: said tie will be ruined.

For those of us who are men of a certain age, the tie doesn’t also help with sunburn the way the headsweats do

I’m a big fan of the full head shave combined with mutton chops, a good copstache, or a Vincent Price. I tried growing out a proper mustachio for Cinco de Mustache – but my wife made me shave it off.
