ParticipantI’ve been tempted to wear my aero helmet on CaBi, because of all the pollen and gnats.

ParticipantWe spotted someone transporting a potted plant via bikeshare (photo taken through windshield at a red light). Well played, sir, well played.

ParticipantMax, my two-year-old: Dad?
Me, wearing bike clothes: Yes, Max.
Max: Dad, are you going to work?
Me: Yes, Max.
Max: Dad, are you going to work on your bozziggle?
Me: Yes, Max.May 22, 2014 at 4:13 pm #1002129jrenaut
ParticipantMy 3 year old calls my bike clothes my “work clothes” because she’s probably never actually seen me wear what I wear at work.

Participantcycling fool, jr. just turned two. For a few months already, though, he has been stringing together words like, “Dada bike ride work.” When grad school classes were still in session he was even more creative, something to the effect of “Dada bike ride work class.” He really only conceptually understands what the first two words/terms (Dada and bike ride) really are, but it’s a blast to listen to. He also knows which shoes are my SPDs, and when I ask for my bike shoes in the morning, he brings them to me.
Other words in his arsenal: chain, pedal, wheel

That’s adorable.

Is he working that bicycling advocacy with the members of his play group?

ParticipantMy younger daughter woke up one morning and said, “Where’s Daddy? … Oh, it’s Fwiday. He’s probably at Cawfee Club.” But I was in the hallway.

ParticipantFor the last 6-8 months, whenever my 18-month-old gets upset, he asks for “bikey”. And most of the time, he can be found wearing his helmet (which he loves pointing out and saying “helMUT helMUT”). In the last month or two he’s really expanded his vocabulary to include “pedal”, “wheel”, “trainer”. He’s fond of finding all of our helmets in the garage and giving them to the right people before a ride.
My favorite bikey smile of late is when the kids air pedal — the 18 mo does it when he’s in the front bike seat (“pedal, pedal, pedal”), and the 3.5 yo does it when she’s sitting in the suspended high chair watching bike related videos (like Mickey’s Road Ralley, or Tour of California).
Come to think of it, I’m not sure of the last time they were in a (non-toddler) car.

His strongest advocacy efforts so far in his play group seem to be Wednesday mornings (at someone else’s house) when he rallies the 18-30 month old troops to the glass front door to watch the greatly anticipated (regular) arrival of the “bidge tuck” (garbage truck).
He just got a Strider for his birthday, so maybe he’ll start talking up bikes more.

At first I thought it was for sheet music, but upon further inspection it appears to be a tablet holder! Sadly, I am now imagining someone riding down a street the wrong way, oblivious to their surroundings as they tap their iPad to read the next page of their ebook.
