Although it’s a competition and there will be a team and individuals who “win,” my advice to everyone is to not sweat the miles.
I like to think of it as a game more than a competition. And it’s actually a bunch of games with a lot of winners, as you will see when the Pointless Prize awards ceremony goes on for an hour.
I would add to what Eddy said: “Just ride…and join the social rides and activities. Meet the other game players.” Them’s good peoples.January 22, 2020 at 4:34 pm #1103662drevil

ParticipantOK, when it’s raining and 40 degrees on Saturday, I’ll lie back on the couch and “let the miles come to me.” I’ll let you know how that works.
Fausto Coppi’s advice was “ride the bike.” Somehow, I think there was way more to it than that.

So now that it’s partly sunny and almost 50° are you more tempted to ride? [emoji3][emoji2186][emoji106]

Kind of disappointed the weather hasn’t been crappier during FS (so far.)
Only one “iffy” ride in fresh snow (on the 18th).

OK you guys are all beasts. To my mind the spirit of freezing saddles is don’t let the weather stop you! But frankly as long as it’s cold enough to keep the masses of wobbly riders off the trails, this is plenty cold enough for me…. I have my Monday ride all planned out – no shame in taking a break from winter when it’s offered.
Besides, last time we got splop I found out that the brakes on my “snow bike” STILL don’t stop when they’re wet, despite all the work Pete did on them…..
My other bikes (which do stop) have 23s, and won’t fit anything wider than maybe 25s. Lost my rear light stopping the hard way on Veitch at Lee that day … And Joan is still recovering from the concussion she got the next morning when she went for a walk thinking it would be safer than biking (so without her helmet of course. [emoji1751])Having said all that, I’ll also disclose that I grew up in Puerto Rico, so my happy childhood memories are all temperate…..[emoji16]

When I was growing up in Ohio, there was snow on the ground from Thanksgiving until Easter, growing ever dirtier as time passed. By February, people would have been throwing themselves off of tall buildings, except that there were no tall buildings in my town. By that measure, winter never comes to DC.
