I thought it was just a-hole car drivers that yelled at bikers but I was running down the bike lane on 15th street around 6pm today, hugging the curb. A dude comes whizzing past me, yelling and pointing to my right, “THE SIDEWALK IS OVER THERE”. Then he whizzed past the next runner and pointed, yelling the same thing.

I don’t know – I guess it kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I wasn’t in his path really and I don’t yell that at bikers who are on the sidewalks. Maybe its because I have been running there for 2 years and this is the first time it has ever happened. I’m not a tourist serpentining in your path with my devil brood.

I’m a bike commuter too, can’t we just share?

My wife and dad and mother-in-law are all long-distance runners (probably about 30 marathons and countless half’s between the three), and I have no question as to whether asphalt is “softer”. It’s SIGNIFICANTLY softer on joints when you look at the additive impact on joints when 1000s of miles are logged running. As long as they are running opposite of traffic with lights/reflective garments, then what’s the biff?

We’ve been over this. I’ve been told by docs that insoles are the better solution. More importantly, if there’s a sidewalk, it’s illegal to run in the road. There are lots of reasons cyclists prefer to run stop signs and red lights — drivers too for that matter — doesn’t negate the law.
