ParticipantJealous much. One day, when my legs will let me. I will have to follow in your tire tracks! Very envious.

Tour de Cure was today out on the W&OD, so I imagine we’ll be seeing a lot of mileage put on by the DC community. I ran into the ride unwittingly while doing my own century ride and there were a TON of people out there.
We were downtown Saturday morning and the Run for the Cure was just finishing up. Lots of pink.
I fit right in.

I was sweep ride marshal for the 50+ mile route out to Purcellville. With the ride to and from the start in Reston, I got my third straight Sunday century in. Too bad all three were the length of the W&OD and back.

That is a rough ride…. Sean and I did a long ride in MoCo that ended with us riding the C&O from Violet’s Lock to Chain Bridge on Sunday afternoon. It was a lot of mellow, waiting for a gap to appear followed by a brief acceleration to get to open space.
It was a LOVELY day to be on a bike.

I think the ride had wrapped up by the time this happened, but did you happen to see/hear what happened in the area of Difficult Run? It looked like maybe two bikes collided, or a runner and bike collided, maybe around 530ish, but there were so many people on the scene by the time I rode through that I couldn’t tell what the deal was.

I think the short routes went through that area, but the riders should have been finished by noon. The last rider on the 50+ mile TdC was back in Reston by 1:30, and I was back home by 5 pm, so I didn’t see (or) hear about this. I did hear a bunch of sirens behind me in Ashburn after we left the Carolina Bros rest stop, but again, didn’t hear anything about what might have happened.

Thank you thank you. When we got back last night I decided on our walk home from the airport that I was going to ride to work today no matter what. All went well. I just have to use the big-ass bandaids to cover the wound every day. It’s healing slowly but hardly any pain now, which is good because I’m desperate to get back to routine riding.
On a much different topic – This weekend in Minnesota we visited my 3 and 4 year old nephews. On Friday soon after we arrived, Kody, the younger one who had been having some trouble learning how to pedal his bike finally had the light switch turn on!!! He had a big smile on his face as he pedaled up and down their big driveway and he literally spent several hours of the 4 days we were there riding! It was a really cool thing to see. That’s how I got the mile I logged on Saturday; he wanted me to ride with him so for more than an hour one day we rode big circles together. Their mom said that up until we showed up he would try for a minute or so then get frustrated and give up.
Hopefully there’s a new cyclist among us, but then again he’s also obsessed (OBSESSED!!) with tractors.

ParticipantIn the middle of a 96 mile fixie mountain bike death march on Sunday, we stopped at the Montgomery County pump track to turn a few laps. A young dad was there with his 5 year old twin boys. They were tearing around the pump track with an amazing amount of joy. They had a really healthy sense of competition with each other and were both ecstatic to be riding. Dad said they’d really just mastered the ability to turn laps a week or two earlier and beg to get down there every chance they can. Dad said that bed time has become MUCH easier, as both are pretty much exhausted well before sunset.
Awesome to see young recruits so passionate about it!
Rock on!

Are there any pump tracks in VA? I’d love to get my little guy on one…

There’s one out near Leesburg. If you google “Freedom Center Pump Track Leesburg” you’ll find info on it. There’s one in Elkridge, MD too. http://www.rockburnskillspark.org/

ParticipantGood to see almost all the A team checking in!
It’s interesting to see combined daily miles in the team, and the daily variations. I don’t think you can see them for other teams, so here’s some recent days from the A team:
May
27 – 128
28 – 242
29 – 208
30 – 173
31 – 195
Jun
1 – 52
2 – 34
3 – 171
4 – 180
5 – 201The highest I’ve seen is 488 miles on May 20.
