#BAFS2019LostDog

The pointless prize with a point.

Due to circumstances beyond their control (mostly related to the fact that 2018 was the year of the mud in one form or another), there is an influx of rescue dogs in residence at the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue kennel in Falls Church. Most of these dogs are relatively young and have lots of energy that need to be expended. This is where you fine freezing folks come in.

So, get on your bike, ride to the kennel and walk some dogs (or if that is not your thing, play with some cats or clean some cages/kennels)!

Team Bikenetic (and friends) tend to volunteer on Thursday evenings, if you want to ensure you have some company for your first trip out to the Kennel. Bob (rcannon) and I will set up a couple of orientation times over the next few weeks if Thursday does not work for you, but you are not required to go to one of those.

Shelter Location:
6801 Wilson Blvd
Falls Church, VA 22044
It is directly behind Eden Center & must be accessed by the smaller entrance to Eden Center off of Wilson Blvd (entrance with no arch, smaller concrete lions, right next to Arlington Motors sign). Once you turn into Eden Center, immediately turn left. Follow road to a large gray building with yellow awnings. Park in the little lot by the building, but not at the building across the street, if you are driving. Bikes are welcome in the lobby, if needed.

Another thing you can do: I made up basically baseball cards for different dogs and have posted them all over my building. This is a power point slide – cut into four cards. I think I could post the file or you can make your own.

Love this. I would take Ghost if I didn’t have (a) the wrong kind of home for a dog like Ghost and (b) two smaller dogs, one of which is very alpha. But I’m trying to think of any friends who could provide Ghost or Bologna a good home.

You can also

* Foster
* Take a dog out for a day on a “Dogventure”. We have “adopt me” leashes and “adopt me” vests for the dogs. Take the dog for a big walk on the WOD or something like that.

Sounds like a good way for single people to meet other people.

Rode over and walked three doggos last evening.

Nestor:

Oscar:

Dawson:

Nestor and Oscar were both leash pullers but really sweet. Dawson was new and may have been a hunting dog. Mrs. rcannon said they had received three hunting dogs with tattoos recently, but she wasn’t sure yet who was who. But Oscar was a bit timid at times and I thought I might have to pick him up and carry him back along Roosevelt. I couldn’t get a good pic of him on the walk, where he was mostly head down and nervy, but once I put him back in the cage he was animated again. Right after the above pic he gave me a goodbye kiss on the hand, so I felt a little better.

One more of Dawson:

ETA: Does anyone know how to make the pics orient correctly? (I mean, at least they’re not upside-down like some, but still.)

You could easily snag 100+ points by taking a dog for a few hours long “Dogventure”. If anyone does it (or wants to do it), let me know the details and I will calculate some points for you.

I would *love* to do this and have thought about it many times, but “plays well with others” was not on my dog’s resume when we picked him up at the Richmond SPCA.

LOL I was wondering if dogventure had been added to the scoring bible. Will try to do this.

Rode over this morning at 7:30 to walk 4 dogs: Nestor, Caramelo, Micha, and Chloe

Also found the puppies upstairs and went in to play with them for a little while. It was a slobberfest

Done.

#Fail! Okay, thats hilarious. I was being a jerk, correcting the orientation by putting my laptop on its side and then taking a picture of it w my ipad (orientation fixed, says the jerk). And look what the forum did to the photo!!

I would not have perceived that as jerkiness but as humor; however, this way is doubly humorous.

Hi Nestor! Also, those puppies look like gremlins; don’t let them get near water.

I’ve noticed that on my Flickr page, pics of my dog will sometimes get like 50 views while others get few, so I’ve taken to putting some of the Lost Doggos on there as well and placing the name of the foundation in the description. Who knows, maybe someone will fall in love.

Bonus is the pics orient correctly.

Pictures taken with Apple devices often do not play nicely with the forum based on how the metadata that says what way the camera was oriented is handled.
