    #BAFS2019LostDog

The pointless prize with a point.

Due to circumstances beyond their control (mostly related to the fact that 2018 was the year of the mud in one form or another), there is an influx of rescue dogs in residence at the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue kennel in Falls Church. Most of these dogs are relatively young and have lots of energy that need to be expended. This is where you fine freezing folks come in.

So, get on your bike, ride to the kennel and walk some dogs (or if that is not your thing, play with some cats or clean some cages/kennels)!

Team Bikenetic (and friends) tend to volunteer on Thursday evenings, if you want to ensure you have some company for your first trip out to the Kennel. Bob (rcannon) and I will set up a couple of orientation times over the next few weeks if Thursday does not work for you, but you are not required to go to one of those.

    Shelter Location:
    6801 Wilson Blvd
    Falls Church, VA 22044
It is directly behind Eden Center & must be accessed by the smaller entrance to Eden Center off of Wilson Blvd (entrance with no arch, smaller concrete lions, right next to Arlington Motors sign). Once you turn into Eden Center, immediately turn left. Follow road to a large gray building with yellow awnings. Park in the little lot by the building, but not at the building across the street, if you are driving. Bikes are welcome in the lobby, if needed.

How many points for transporting dogs back from the vet?

This is getting complicated… Since mileage is considered a tax deductible donation, we will do that. The current mileage reimbursement rate is $0.58/ mile. So, if the total trip is 80 miles, you will get 5 points (I round up). Plus an additional 10 points if you walk the dog before the trip and another 10 points if you walk the dog after the trip. :)

Rode over and walked three doggos yesterday.

    Daisy:

Jose (sorry for the invasion of privacy buddy, but that was a loooong pee and the phone was about to turn off while waiting for the shot):

    And Noah:

Daisy was a big sweetie who pulled quite hard on the leash until we got out of the kennel, then was quite gentle. Jose was nice to me but whenever a dog was around he would scramble to try to get at them and bark angrily, so I kept him away from others. Noah was presented to me by Mrs. rcannon100. He is a big, lovable oaf who was up on Mr. rcannon100 and a car before I knew what was happening, but he settled down nicely once we got going.

BTW, was pleased to meet rcannon100 in person.

This seems to be the Godwin’s Law equivalent for all Pointless Prizes.

Rode to the rescue this morning. Signed in at 6:55 am and walked 4 pups (Kipper, Conner, Chloe & Chico). Incidentally got my dose of alliteration for the day.

You are my hero. Kipper is a great dog but so enthusiastic as to be a bit of a challenge. Morning volunteers is one of the greatest needs.

I’m so glad someone else is doing this. And, since it was like 26 degrees at 6:55, I hope Sunyata will consider bonus points.

I’ve been wanting to walk Connor and Chloe, but they’ve been recently walked when I’ve arrived in the afternoon.

I can’t get by in the mornings, but I’ve been trying to convince my better half to go over while she’s furloughed. She wouldn’t be official, but doggies need the morning pees.

Oh, and muscly, it’s on. ;)*

    *It’s not really on.

That’s up to the contest overlord. As financial backer of the contest…. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? No amount of help will be refused!

BTW in light of the blizzard we are currently getting, it might be hard for staff and volunteers to get to the kennel. If you live near the 7 corners kennel, Sunday would be an excellent time to volunteer and earn some game points. We plan to wake up and walk our hogs, and then try to get over there in the morning.

Did the morning walks. Snapped lots of pics. Many got retweeted by the local media – shots showing the snow storm in NOVA. This one was my favorite. This is Bologna.

Meanwhile Darby tried to steal the bagel out of my backpack.
