    #BAFS2019LostDog

The pointless prize with a point.

Due to circumstances beyond their control (mostly related to the fact that 2018 was the year of the mud in one form or another), there is an influx of rescue dogs in residence at the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue kennel in Falls Church. Most of these dogs are relatively young and have lots of energy that need to be expended. This is where you fine freezing folks come in.

So, get on your bike, ride to the kennel and walk some dogs (or if that is not your thing, play with some cats or clean some cages/kennels)!

Team Bikenetic (and friends) tend to volunteer on Thursday evenings, if you want to ensure you have some company for your first trip out to the Kennel. Bob (rcannon) and I will set up a couple of orientation times over the next few weeks if Thursday does not work for you, but you are not required to go to one of those.

    Shelter Location:
    6801 Wilson Blvd
    Falls Church, VA 22044
It is directly behind Eden Center & must be accessed by the smaller entrance to Eden Center off of Wilson Blvd (entrance with no arch, smaller concrete lions, right next to Arlington Motors sign). Once you turn into Eden Center, immediately turn left. Follow road to a large gray building with yellow awnings. Park in the little lot by the building, but not at the building across the street, if you are driving. Bikes are welcome in the lobby, if needed.

Viscous. Haha. If I was viscous, I think that I would choose to be honey. What are you? ;)

PPS: Try the tofu place in the Eden Center!

    Tofu pudding!!!

I didn’t know LDCR was less than a mile from my house. Ill have to get over there to help with the cats. We adopted a cat from them last year. This is Milo as we found him when we returned from dinner and a movie on Christmas.

Does anyone know if a cyclist can access Eden Center from the back, through the Oakwood parking lot, and thereby go through the neighborhood and avoid going uphill in the dark along Sycamore/Roosevelt Blvd.? Asking for a friend.

You can go through the neighborhood, say Tuckahoe, to N. Roosevelt Street–the part that runs along the cemetery, not the 4-lane section, turn left to the light at Roosevelt Blvd (gotta love it!). At that point there is a bike lane, so it’s not nearly as nerve-wracking as the section from 16th to the corner of Roosevelt and Roosevelt. Then you could take the back entrance into the Eden Center, just past the Oakwood, and wind your way around.

My friend says thanks! The section after the bike lane ends heading toward the Roosevelts can at least be avoided.

I did not know about this facility. It appears to be just over 1000 feet (as the crow flies) from where I live. If it weren’t for my eye problem*, it seems it would be pretty easy for me.

Great idea! Does it have to be Lost Dog or can it include other organizations? PACK (People and Animal Cardio Klub) also has something similar too.

Points and prizes will only count for Lost Dog and Cat Foundation volunteer acts/adoptions/events. However, I do encourage you to volunteer with any organisation as much as you can. :)

I’m signed up for tomorrow evening. Not planning on trying to win anything, but the doggies need walkies and the SO is furloughed so I don’t have to rush home like usual to walk our own.

This makes me more happy than you can imagine! Thanks for putting the doggies before yourself. But make sure you let me know when you volunteer so that I can add it all up. You never know what you might win!

I love this side bet. If we had a prize for the most helpful pointless prize…. Drevil would give you a run for your $, but I think this one would still win.

After I get back from outta town AGAIN [emoji849] ima go walk dogs. And if the furlough continues next week maybe my favorite guy will come with me and we’ll walk two.
