    #BAFS2019LostDog

The pointless prize with a point.

Due to circumstances beyond their control (mostly related to the fact that 2018 was the year of the mud in one form or another), there is an influx of rescue dogs in residence at the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue kennel in Falls Church. Most of these dogs are relatively young and have lots of energy that need to be expended. This is where you fine freezing folks come in.

So, get on your bike, ride to the kennel and walk some dogs (or if that is not your thing, play with some cats or clean some cages/kennels)!

Team Bikenetic (and friends) tend to volunteer on Thursday evenings, if you want to ensure you have some company for your first trip out to the Kennel. Bob (rcannon) and I will set up a couple of orientation times over the next few weeks if Thursday does not work for you, but you are not required to go to one of those.

    Shelter Location:
    6801 Wilson Blvd
    Falls Church, VA 22044
It is directly behind Eden Center & must be accessed by the smaller entrance to Eden Center off of Wilson Blvd (entrance with no arch, smaller concrete lions, right next to Arlington Motors sign). Once you turn into Eden Center, immediately turn left. Follow road to a large gray building with yellow awnings. Park in the little lot by the building, but not at the building across the street, if you are driving. Bikes are welcome in the lobby, if needed.

Drove to the kennel this morning at 7:20 to walk Coquito, Scarlett, Bologna & Chloe. Still surprised every time I go and see Bologna and Chloe there — two great dogs. Good news though is it looks like about 30 dogs got adopted this weekend.

    Calling all sandbaggers!!!

Please have all walks/adoptions/cleanings/etc uploaded here by NOON on March 20th, 2019!!!

Also, a HUGE thank you to everyone who has stopped by and walked dogs. It is a huge help to those that run the shelter, and the dogs love it too.

Once the competition is over, please do not stop volunteering. In fact, you should volunteer more and get all of your friends to volunteer also. 😎

I won’t be able to walk more during FS, but I plan to continue to do it every 2 or 3 weeks or so when time permits. Thanks for organizing this. I know you only got a couple of takers out of it, but I for one did not know that walkers (etc.) were needed or that this was even a thing.

Huge thanks, Sunyata, for creating this Not-At-All-Pointless Prize. My team is great, but this has been the highlight of BAFS for me and a great addition to my life outside cycling.

LOL – that is basically what it looked like the time I went back into the puppy area.

I never went there. I wouldn’t have been able to take it and would have wanted to take them all home.

Can’t really deal with thinking about post-current-dog, but when it happens and if we’re ever ready, we’ll adopt a cute ol’ girl like Chloe, or, if we have a larger yard and the time to do it, a girl like Demeter–from Lost Dog, of course.

I hear you. By the way, when I walked Chloe on Sunday, she was no longer favoring that hind leg. She was running on all four equally. Looks like they must have helped her with whatever the injury was.

Thanks rcannon (and Sunyata). The pigeon dropped it off. Such generosity was really unnecessary since hanging out with doggos is its own reward. I actually appreciated the opportunity (and learning that it was even a possibility).
