I was in the middle of doing a mockup of exactly this idea (had my screen grab of the buildings and was going all MSPaint on it with a big “Fixation This Way” Arrow sign about 300 ft tall. Then I came back and Shawn beat me to it.

But we want to see the mockup

I think it’s spelled “Fixtation” with two “T”s. You might confuse the tourists (and locals too) if the sign reads “Fixation This Way”.

    My suggestions for items:

    – blinkie lights (because batteries tend to die mid-ride)
    – Clif bars
    – small packets of small antiseptic wipes (for minor scrapes)
    – spare chain links
    – small packets of Kleenex
    – patch kits
    – reflective bands/stick-ons

Plenty of people used to get their Fix right near there…wasn’t that what the area around Long Bridge Park was all about back in the 80s and 90s?

You mean this place of luxury?

Kind of funny that there is still an operating website for the motel. Complete with a highly detailed map of the neighborhood:

AA batteries (in the fall, winter and spring – freshness might be an issue in the summer)
trail maps (for free or at a nominal fee)

I keep reading it as The Fixation too, and thinking it would be a decent band name.

The Arlington Bike map is an excellent idea.
    Sunscreen packets in the summer.

A great place to have one of these vending machines would be at Jones Pt by the bathrooms due to visibility and convenience but I suspect vandalism would be a major issue 😡

If the vending machine is successful, it could be added to the next edition of the Arlington bike map. The Capital Bikeshare and Bike and Roll folks could also advertise it on their websites/maps.

I made a special trip on the way home yesterday to visit the Fixtation. It’s so cute!

Had lunch with vvill by the Fixation today. My wallet is a tiny bit lighter now. While we were eating a large pack of riders came off the MVT to check it out.

The Fixtation is moving… but not far. About 20 feet away from its current location.

I had been wondering about the new concrete/brick pad next to the MVT Connector. The new announcement confirms that the Fixtation will be moved over to the new site, plus a water fountain will be added. I’m really glad about this one, but more for running purposes than cycling. (I don’t like carrying water bottles while running, but it’s nice to have some water during longer runs.)

FIXTATION AND REPAIR STAND: Under Construction

    WHEN: Open 24/7
WHERE: Crystal City Water Park across from 1750 Crystal Drive and adjacent to the entrance to the Mount Vernon Trail.
WHAT: The Fixtation is currently undergoing a renovation that will add a new water fountain and consolidate all of the equipment onto a new pad directly off of the Crystal City Connector Trail. The Fixtation is intended to provide needed products and repair equipment in a pinch offering a range of bicycle-related merchandise such as tubes, patch kits, lights, energy bars, drinks, and more. A repair stand with basic tools and an air pump accompany the machine offering a convenient place to address any tune-up needs right at the Mount Vernon Trail entrance.”

I wonder if water damage could be a problem for the vending machine. In the current location, the machine is semi-protected from rain. There is a lot of tree cover and the food stand blocks rain from one side. The new location doesn’t have the benefit of the food stand. I’m not sure about the tree cover for that exact spot. Is it enough to block most of the rain, including rain that moves at an angle because of the wind?

Will any of the bike maintenance tools rust prematurely in that spot?

The Fixtation has moved! The drinking fountain is currently not operational.

Does the station have a functioning pump? I would benefit from that more often than I care to think while out on a ride… goodness I hate the shift to micropumps.
