ParticipantThat’s a sweet idea, Right there in the water park. It really is a shame the Revolution closed down the city hub there on 20th. I know when I spoke to them they said they did good with accessories but struggled with rentals and that was their main reason for opening that location.

ParticipantNice. Will there be Clif bars too? If so, then you’d really have all bases covered. (A drinking fountain too, because I’m greedy.)

ParticipantI seem to remember that Bikes@Vienna has a vending machine full of bike goodies out in front of it for random after hours emergencies.

ParticipantI LOVE this idea, now that I’m working only 2 blocks away.
Just make sure you stock it with:700c x 20-25 tubes
700c x 25-30 tubes
700c x 32-38 tubes
700c x 38-42 tubesand lots of Skratch Labs goodies.
KTHANXBAI!

ParticipantIs there going to be a pump and a fix stand or is it just the vending machine?

ParticipantI want to buy something there – just to support the whole concept.

ParticipantAny thoughts on how this is going to be advertised in the area so cyclists know it is there? I’m sure NPS won’t allow a sign on the MVT, so perhaps a sandwich board at the entrance to the tunnel ramp (but who would put it up/take it down every day?) or perhaps a better paint job of the vending machine itself so that it says “BIKE STUFF HERE”.
I’ll probably never make use of the vending machine since I live walking distance away but I’d love to see a “fix it” station at the water park. It would be great to be able to throw the bike up on the stand to check if the wheels are true, straighten out brakes, etc. whenever I wanted to without a hassle.

ParticipantAt least NPS doesn’t have jurisdiction over the Water Park or Crystal Drive, so there can be signs in the park. Maybe BikeArlington can add a symbol to the next Arlington bike map to indicate the location of this and other bike vending machines.
The Crystal City BID will also promote this. They already sponsor a full Bike to Work Week, and co-sponsor most of the CaBi stations in Crystal City, the Diamond Derby and the Air Force Association Cycling Classic – Challenge Ride.

ParticipantFYI–this is a Phoenix Bikes/Crystal City BID project. I’m sure both of those organizations would enjoy your comments and suggestions.

.How does Bikenetic get away with their sign on the W&OD? I know its NVRPA instead of NPS, but perhaps the same contractual mechanisms could be applied?

The pump/fix it stand I’ve referenced before will be at the covered bike parking pavilions at Pentagon City, Clarendon and Shirlington. I don’t know if the Water Park will also get one as part of this project.

There will be a repair stand with tools and a bike pump installed next to the machine. We are still waiting for it to be delivered.

I know that BA usually gives the BA blinky lights away for free, but have you guys considered stocking the machine with a pair of front and back blinkies and charging something really low just to recoup transaction costs? $2 for a pair or something like that. I am always in need of those blinkies. Heck, I’d buy a few pairs just to be able to hand out to ninjas that I see along the trails.
(And I understand that its not really a BA effort – just thought you might be able to coordinate with Phoenix and CCBID on it)

CCBID gives out front blinkies with their own logo on them.
