ANOTHER CHANGE to the final 10 miles of our route.
After another visit to Shortcake today, I was unable to convince them to add doughnuts to their menu. So they are chopped. Instead, we will wave to the little castle as we pedal past, and continue another mile to the West Hyattsville Dunkin Donuts.
Another Dunkin, you are wondering? NO, NO!! Instead of DD in Silver Spring, we will now be going to the delicious Ethiopian-owned, Italian-inspired Tiramisu Bakery and Cafe on Eastern Avenue. In addition to their famous “doughnut-family” Millefeulle pastry, they have really great COFFEE, and they have GELATO! I think it will offer us sweet relief after all of our doughnut stops. It is also pretty close to the SS Metro, for anyone taking the easy way home.
My Team 4 Snowflake buddies are retooling the mp for us (Thanks!). It will be posted before the ride.
Look, this could be us after the snow tomorrow, multitasking Freezing Saddles and Doughneuring. Does any else think this could be Rod Smith? We shall see on Saturday!
Ride safely in the “snow”. Kate

Doughneurers,
Even I will admit that consuming 6 or more doughnuts on the course of a 40-mile ride might be too much of a good thing.
We will divide and conquer like this: buddy up or group up on the purchases of doughnuts, and I will be armed with a bunch
of knives so we can divide the doughnuts into tasting bites. This way everyone can taste more than one delightful variety at
each stop, but overall consume far fewer doughnuts–if you eat a half a doughnut, or less, at each stop, you should be able to ride without
digestive disorder syndrome.Sharing is nice. You can always buy a whole one to pedal home with you if you really like the doughnuts.
Oh, it is perfectly acceptable to skip the consuming part at some of the stops. This is also a reconnaissance ride for everyone to discover
where the doughnuts are.Kate
As a true, hardcore doughneur, I am committing to eating at least 6 whole doughnuts.

ParticipantThanks for organizing Saturday’s donut extravaganza, Edelweiss! I’ll be there for at least the first half of the ride.

Shortcake and DD Silver Spring removed, and DD Hyattsville and Tiramisu Bakery replaced for each respectively. I wasn’t quite sure how to route between miles 34.5-37 on the new map (Ver 2), which is below :
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/18919678
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/18919678.tcxNow it goes through Rock Creek Park for a little bit
Someone correct me if they know a better way at any point along the route. Thanks!

ParticipantSo sorry not to be able to join this ride! It’s really starting to sound like anyone who doesn’t join is pretty much out of the running (that whole thing about sampling 6 different doughnuts in one place if someone brings a knife thing). Ah well. Have a great time!

Doughneurerers, and Team 4,
We will circumnavigate the District of Columbia to experience doughnut nirvana on Saturday, February 11th. Weather prediction is favorable. Exact details coming soon, but Save The Date.

Thanks to Ricky for this map of the route: https://goo.gl/maps/g1jWwuj5DHv
This will be a No-Drop Ride, we will enjoy a leisurely and social pace!
Route subject to slight variations to account for road conditions, detours to more doughnut shops or bakeries… For Doughnuts only!Approximate times will be posted, but they will be best guesses, for those planning to join at any point after the start. All Doughneurers who RSVP can private message me to exchange mobile phone numbers, I will text out the groupo’s progress for your meeting plans along the route.
Anyone can join at any doughnut stop for a social with the riders, riding along does not preclude making each stop a separate FS Social Butterfly event.
I will take a Group Sock Photo at some point, do wear your favorites!
Questions? Ask edelweiss
I’ll join either at the start or somewhere along. Will pm you my #. Thanks for organizing !÷

Note that just before milepost 11 after you cross the bridge over Washington Blvd., you will encounter construction on the Rte 50 frontage road. Don’t ride on rte 50 itself! You can navigate around the cones and barrels and take the sidewalk on the frontage road that is under construction for one block to get to Fillmore.
(This information may be out of date; I have not been that way for a couple of weeks)
Here’s another tip: At mile 15 along Washington Blvd., when you cross the ramp coming up from your right, turn left onto the road rather than cross – don’t get on the sidewalk. It’s your own private lane; it’s a right-only after you cross the bridge, and no cars ever take that ramp. Then you can more easily bear left back onto the trail. You will be on the roadway between the two yellow circles on this map:

Was there this past weekend and can confirm that it is still under construction. As Steve mentioned you can ride on the side road and then along the sidewalk before you get to Fillmore.
I plan on joining around Astro.

Thanks Steve. I’m not sure if this requires rerouting on the latest map that I made, but whoever’s leading the ride (and subleaders), can you take note of these and use it to your best advantage? I’ve integrated a few more tweaks from Edelweiss, but I probably won’t have time to change it again before the ride on Saturday.
Remember, this map is just a guide, and I based most of it off of Google Map’s bike routing, along with suggestions from the forum. If it leads you off a cliff, don’t follow it
The leader won’t lead you astray. Follow her. If you know a better way, let her know. That said, if you do want to download the map to your GPS or just see what you’re in for, here ’tis:

No changes required to the map. You are still riding the same route, just avoiding obstacles.

ParticipantUp for consideration is a doughnut that, in my mind, embodies the doughneuring challenge in a big, BIG way. I mean, massive. Just look at the size of this apple fritter from Shoppers!
Okay, so I admit, Shopper’s fritters are not actually my favorite. About the only thing they have going for them is their size. The best part of any apple fritter is the apples, followed closely by the ribbon of cinnamon sugar throughout. Shoppers, alas, usually doesn’t cut it. Safeway, honestly, makes really good fritters. Hmm.. maybe I need to venture over there soon…
Entry for sorriest, though largest, doughnut? Hmm…

ParticipantI finally made it to Tasty Donuts & Coffee on Eschersheimer Landstraße while they were open. I enjoyed a Tasty Lemon Donut with my Caffe Americano.

ParticipantThis donut ride sounds totally fun….thanks for organizing! I just want to make sure we know where to find you…I see it’s at 9 a.m. at 202 Donuts, 4901 Fairmont Ave. in Bethesda.
For those of us who view Maryland as a foreign country, can someone explain exactly where this is? If we ride up the Crescent Trail, where do we get off and how do we locate the 202 Donuts place?
Thanks!!! w&wFebruary 10, 2017 at 6:43 pm #1065819Edelweiss

Thanks!!! w&wHi Wheels,
If you look at the map and cue sheet Ricky d. made for me, you can see that we will be leaving 202 and riding to the CCT at the start of the ride. You should be able to follow the map in reverse to get FROM the CCT up to 20 Donut cafe. Let me know if that doesn’t help.
Essentially you want to exit the Trail at the Woodmont intersection and take Woodmont up to Fairmont–this involves riding on the sidewalk for the bit of Woodmont that is one-way in your face. Turn left on Fairmont, The 202 Donut cafe is a block and a half ahead on your right!! Look for the bikes.
See you at 0900. We will plan to roll out around 9:20 or so. e
Note: a doughnut with Wings:
