ParticipantSlogged through the rain today to District Donuts on 8th St SE. I ordered a Dulce de Leche donut. I flipped the doughnut over and to my great surprise, it had a map to a sunken gold laden Spanish galleon. Oh what great fortune, I thought! But then the horrible thought came to my mind that if I used this doughnut as a treasure map that I would not get to enjoy it’s stuffed sweet leche deliciousness. So, treasure map be damned, I gobbled up all that yummy filled doughnut goodness.

Oh, I feel a bit ill and sad that you went to those sorry packaged donettes. Sorry points have been awarded to you. I am, however, happy to see that you do understand and appreciate some truly awesome doughnuts available around the Freezing Saddles territory. e

ParticipantStopped by Astro Donuts on the way to work. They are known for their maple bacon but picked up a pineapple and a German black forest instead to share. The pineapple was a bit sweet and the black forest wasn’t as decadent as expected. A rare off day but more reasons to go back to try their other flavors and see if there is a treasure map hidden inside!

ParticipantDoughneurers!
We are a week away from Groundhog Day. Doughnuts are famous Groundhog Day treats, so bonus points for any entries by February 3rd for Groundhog themed doughnuts. Let us all know where you found them!
P.S. Bill Murray is a tiny video, please do not eat your doughnuts like he did!! eJanuary 25, 2017 at 2:55 pm #1064681bikedavid
ParticipantNot sure if a non-donut establishment counts but I happened to be at a happy hour at Smoke & Barrel and saw they had sweet potato donuts. Like a good FS rider I couldn’t not order them in the name of science. They tasted a bit like the munchkins at Dunkin Donuts with a bit of a sweet potato aftertaste. Maybe it was the beer or the praline-pecan drizzle but they were pretty tasty!

However, the following sweet treats will be given consideration for points if the rider submits a compelling description and is able to sway the judges:
Chocolate Croissant
Attempt to sway the very wise, incredibly intelligent and devastatingly beautiful judge:
I ate a Chocolate Croissant (and a sticky bun) at Best Buns in Shirlington for Hump Day Coffee Club today. Despite being a bakery, Best Buns has totally blown it by not offering sweet, tasty doughnuts. Undaunted, I showed them a picture of Kate and demanded, “Bring me a doughnut as magnificent as this woman!” The cashier shrugged and suggested a chocolate croissant. “FOOL!” I screamed. I informed the cashier that if Helen of Troy was the face that launched a thousand ships that Kate’s face could launch like a million ships all laden with sweet sugary doughnut goodness, adding “Also, I’ll go ahead and take that chocolate croissant.”

Also supposedly the best doughnuts in Frankfurt (and there’s not much competition) are at Tasty Donut and one has opened not too far from me on Eschersheimer Landstaße. I rode by today, but did not stop.

ParticipantGirl’s Weekend in the mountains of Georgia. We met a decade ago when we all lived in Geneva, Switzerland. Have since spread out around the world, but we try to get together once or twice a year.
