For today’s Doughneuring, I stopped at Bäckerei Künkel in a REWE in Karben for a donut with some sort of white icing with my kaffee.

We rode, we ate, we conquered!

What a wild success! Thanks to everyone who turned out for my ride, for some or all of it, or even just for a beer at the end! I am thrilled we braved the wind and cold in the sunshine.

I may have to plan another ride after Freezing Saddles ends…

    Post your doughnuts. Kate

Donut with socks. Glazed with blackberry drizzle (the donut, that is). Quite delicious!

You know the drill by now: bike around to seek out an Irish-heritage themed doughnut. Take a photo and enjoy it, tell me how you liked it.

PI Day Doughneuring challenge fail. I stopped at the Moos Bäckerei in Nieder-Erlenbach for Kaffee, but they had no donuts, just jelly Berliners and Schokocroissants. I went with the Amerikaner, but that turned out more like a soft cookie. Then at the end of the ride I just had to have cherry pie.

secstate and I, representing Team 5, attempted to infiltrate Team 4 after the doughnut extravangza ride for more donuts. We missed team 4 but we did successfully get more donuts (actually churros) and a beer. The churros were warm and crispy as they should be and came with copious amounts of delicious chocolate ganache and dulce de leche for dipping.

Also thought some of you may get a kick that yours truly stopped for donuts during the Rock N Roll Half the day before. Presumably this is from a Dunkin Donuts on H St.

Also for some beer too in case you’d like to watch a little clip of the race. Sadly they do not count but were gladly welcomed–a proven performance enhancer.

A St. Patrick’s Donughneuring entry a day early, a green frosted jelly Berliner from the base commissary in Wiesbaden, from a local German baker. Nothing special, and it was wild berry filling.

Another Doughneuring fail this morning. I finally stopped at Brot und Freunde which is on my route to the Consulate. They did have a Vanilledonut, but it looked so small and boring after 13 miles in the drizzle that I opted for an Apfeltasche with my Kaffee and it may be too much like a pie to qualify (think McDonalds apple pie but much, much better).

    Vasaloppet Riders!

I will be leading a 31-mile group around 9:30, please say hi, I am the one with doughnuts on my helmet.

You have a chance for one more Doughneuring-qualifying pastry tomorrow at the Vasa rest stop where River Road and Falls Road intersect at Vie de France. Sometimes they have beignets, but seek out something yummy and send it in. I will see how far my tolerance can be stretched. Just don’t waste any effort submitting a bagel. edelweiss

Is a funnel cake a donut? Close enough?

    Anyway, here goes.

Shared at the Cherry Blossom Festival, after a CaBi ride from Alexandria with PrincessOfTheMark.

Time to catch up on some doughneuring… :)

On March 2nd I was getting ready for a night shift and had stayed up all night. I seem to recall that this was one of those really windy days – one where I thought I might be blown over, and I had to walk my bicycle at some points because the wind was so strong. So there I was – riding into DC at about 5:30am having stayed up all night. I decided, amidst rushing into Harris Teeter to use the restroom, that I deserved a doughnut!!!

… and what a disappointment it was. I really like apple fritters, so that’s what I chose to sample from Harris Teeter in NOMA. The thing… it was worse than the massive offering that I’ve already submitted from Shoppers. Very, very bland. And – no glaze to speak of! It was almost like biting into a dense hamburger bun, with maybe the barest hint of cinnamon and sweet. I don’t recommend it.
