Don’t think we were to blame but the Dunkin donuts next to my work ran out of donuts today. Oh no, what is everyone going to do…

ParticipantAnother Dounghneuring stop on today’s GrünGürtel ride. At about the halfway point I stopped at Glocken Bäckeri in a new development at Offenbach Haven. It is right on the R3 Hesse cycle route and about 100 yards from the bike counter monolith (I was #712 today). I had their chocolate frosted donut with my Cafe Crema.

ParticipantDoughneurers,
You have all been quiet this week, recovering from the Extravaganza, I am sure.
But 3 days of weekend, promising excellent cycling weather, beacon us out to pay homage to our country’s Presidents. And what better way to do that than by indulging in a famous “Berliner” doughnut??

Go for a ride, acquire a Berliner, and enjoy it while you ponder not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. Bonus for patriotic kit or socks. Full points, even at repeat venues.Mini-Berliners count if you are not yet up to eating a whole jelly doughnut. Non-jelly filling is ok, but you can’t submit a ring-shaped doughnut and call it a Berliner. Powdered sugar, crystalline sugar, and glaze finishes are fine. Combine it with a German beer if you like.
You have all weekend. e

A true Doughneur will immediately recognize this as a scene from District Doughnuts in Cady’s Alley. e

ParticipantDoughneurs,
I have finally recovered from the sugar overdose induced by the Great Doughneuring Ride of 2017.
First stop: 202 Doughnuts
I had a mudpie doughnut and half of Komorebi’s key lime doughnut. Mudpie had Oreos on it. Would repeat although it was on the small side. I don’t like lime so the key lime doughnut was no bueno.

ParticipantSecond stop: District Donuts in Georgetown.
I tried to share my doughnut with a strawberry in it with JFK but then decided that it was far too delicious to share.
I also had 1/3 of a regular old doughnut from wheels and wings and 1/3 of a doughnut from someone else. I can’t remember what type of doughnut it was.

ParticipantThird stop: Sugar Shack in Arlington in my hood. I helped navigate the group here and also back to D.C. and managed to avoid getting anyone killed on Columbia Pike.
I ordered my doughnut thusly: I want the chocolate one with glitter on it. It was yumtastic.
Also had a third of a samoa doughnut and a third of another glitter doughnut and a third of a red velvet doughnut.
Komorebi had a picture of me eating two doughnuts at the same time.

ParticipantStop 4 was Astro Donuts.
I had this gem with awesome fudge like filling:
I think I had another half doughnut here too but didn’t take a picture. I was in a doughnut frenzy like a Great White shark in a well chummed water at this point.
I also met bikedavid, my doughneuring nemesis.

ParticipantNext stop: Dunkin Donuts. Went with the standard Boston Kreme which is my go to doughnut.
It was at this point that I started feeling not so well. There were a couple of undocumented doughnut bits along the way and I think I had a total of 8 doughnuts. I was also running out of time to get home so this was my last stop.
Thanks for organizing Kate. Lots of fun.

ParticipantI skipped the Berliner (even though they were 5 for four Euro) and stuck with the Schokodonut with my Cafe creme (spellings are always from the way the shop posted the item). This time I stopped at Naumann Bäckerei in Niederrodenbach.

Opps forgot to add the photo from Beard Papa’s. It doesn’t quite look like a beard.
Some other recent donut stops. Was at Right Proper Brewing the other day and saw they had donuts. Attempted to do both beerneuring and doughneuring by ordering both at the same time! They have an apple cinnamon donut. Was surprised to find slices of apple inside. It seemed more like a frybread or flambé.
Also stopped by the District Donut on Capitol Hill today and ran into Karen and her group. A taste off ensued. I got the peppermint patty and brown butter. Not sure which one they liked but I really liked the airiness of the brown butter.
Indeed we did run into one another. I liked both but I think peppermint patty was my favorite.

ParticipantOn today’s Doughneuring I gave in and got a Berliner, not just your average Berliner, but a Kid’s Berliner mit Schokopuddin. Stopped at Philippi’s Bäckerei & Konditorei in Neiderdorfelden just before they were to close at 11:00 am.
