Any one from the DC area thinking of participating in this ride, and interested in car-pooling? I may do either this one, or the Tour de Madison the day before, but probably not both rides. Thank you. Ride on, Boomer

Storming of Thunder Ridge is Lynchburg, Virginia’s only local, fully-supported road cycling event. With the Blue Ridge Mountains as your backdrop, there’s a ride for everyone: 27, 45, 75 and 100 mile options. The Storming of Thunder Ridge Bicycle Ride is a fund-raiser benefiting the YMCA of Central Virginia’s Annual Fund.

This year’s ride START/FINISH is once again at the Jamerson Family YMCA. Saturday night CAMPING INSIDE our GYMNASIUM or OUTSIDE on our Soccer Fields is an option for our riders!!! (Indoor Camping with have a nominal fee).

Riders can take advantage of all our amenities: shower facilities, whirlpool, and swimming pools. So bring your swimsuit!!! We do NOT have a towel service, so please bring your own towel, and a lock for your belongings.

Our post-ride celebration will include lots of food with plenty of time to relax and enjoy your accomplishments with all your cycling friends.

I’ll be doing it, but I’ll be coming in from Lexington. I have plenty of room if someone needs a place to crash. Only one spare bed but I have lots of floor space :)

This is on my bucket list, but my parents may be in town that weekend, so it may have to wait another year.

I have done this ride three times and it is a super fun and very well supported ride. Plus if you do the 75 or 100 mile course, you get to climb Thunder Ridge, which is a great challenge (13 miles, ~6-7% grade, 3300-ish feet).

I used to live in Lynchburg and the cycling community there is awesome so you will have a great bunch of riders to get to know while climbing the mountain. Not to mention that the views are incredible. I highly recommend it!

This will be the third year I’ll be riding it, I go down the day before and ride around a bit — last year Team Dire Wolf lead a warm up ride on the Saturday before. Since there’s some sort of college graduation around town that time of year, I end up out in Appomattox. Still the best supported century I’ve ridden, other than the one where my wife drove sag wagon on my Skyline Drive double.

They are so awesome that I have yet to sign on with another team that is closer to home now.
