ParticipantI picked up a flashing arm/ankle band at REI last night. I got it mainly for running, but I think it’ll be a nice addition to my cycling gear. It’s basically a reflective band (like the yellow BA ones), but with flashing LEDs built in**. The main downside I noticed is that it’s definitely not weatherproof, but it’s still pretty neat. I think that, when attached to an ankle, the moving/flashing light would really make you stand out. I may pick up a second one to make a visibility collar for my dog!

**for those interested **ahem**, it does come in pink….

ParticipantThe bright blurry light is the reflectivity built into the sidewall of my Michelin City tires. Also interested to see the Cannondale logo – which is black on a black frame – actually does reflect as well as promised.

CABI’s have reflective tires as well – have seen great images along the GW of two O O moving down the trail.

I have two very similar to that, and they were among my very first safety equipment when I started bicycle commuting. They are still going strong eight years later. I put one on each ankle. I have gotten numerous comments on how beneficial they are for visibility over the years.

Those things are cool! I’ve seen them on the trail and I like them. Cool stuff!

He’s walking. He’s been pretty grumpy whenever I say good morning or tell him that I love his vest. That tells me that he may have had some negative interactions with other trail users which caused the acquisition of the human and canine vests.
I’m sorry if that is the case, but happy that he went for over-the-top visibility.

Which section of the trail is this. I’ve got a “mr grumpy” walking a dog in the Bluemont area of the 4MRT and the W&OD who insists on walking into oncoming traffic. He yelled at me even for not calling a pass even though I had rung my bell. I used to see him just about every morning, but not for the past couple months, and my schedule hasn’t changed.

ParticipantCanadian geese hiss at me if I get too close to their young. They tried to chase me off of the MVT one time when I was running by. Mallard ducks are calmer, and basically oblivious to everything around them. They won’t move for anyone or anything, and they don’t seem to care who or what is there, even if it’s a car.
