ParticipantI certainly hope it will happen! I’ve pointed out to multiple folks that the street adjacent to the Silver Diner (Irving St) will be closed off to the intersection which will allow for a bike queuing area (bike box?) for eastbound riders (I am very excited for this!). Also, the bike lane for westbound riders will be extended to Fairfax Dr (the pics don’t show this very well, but it’s in the design) which improves that short stretch a lot by removing the need to merge with traffic.
Here are some pics taken from the site:

ParticipantI believe this has been discussed here a few times in the past, but the sucky forum technology makes it impossible to effectively find.
I wrote a blog post a while back, prior to the ABAC/county staff field trip there, which is actually not that much different than the proposal. The ABAC has discussed this with program staff at a couple of our meetings and provided input.Yes, very likely to happen, although Arlington is notoriously bad at estimating their time schedules.

ParticipantIt’s moving forward nicely. Here is the most current design that I’ve seen (definitely newer than what bobco posted).

ParticipantOh and in case it’s hard to follow:

ParticipantWestbound flow may also follow the path through the peninsula if they choose. Doing this eliminates the conflict point with pedestrians when turning right onto Fairfax Drive, but requires crossing the pedestrians at the crosswalk on Washington blvd. It also removes the potential conflict with eastbound bike riders after the right turn.
I actually think it would have been a better solution to make the trail across the peninsula 2-way and then design the access/egress point at the corner effective for that design.

ParticipantThe newer pics look even better! I do have a question, though. For the bike box on the SE corner, will there be a line/marking so that cyclists are not sticking out into a lane of EB Washington Blvd?

Given the design of having a green bike lane continuing WB across Washington Blvd to a buffered bike lane, I think it would be more intuitive for cyclists to stay in the bike lane and turn onto Fairfax Dr instead of making a right turn onto the sidewalk to use the path. Otherwise, the green bike lane would need to have a path in the middle of the intersection curving to the right to guide riders toward the path. At the very least, the new design eliminates the pedestrian/cyclist conflict that is currently there for EB riders.

ParticipantThere must be a clear prohibition of right-on-red from eastbound Wilson onto southbound Wash Blvd, in order to avoid RTOR conflicts between vehicles and cyclists in the bike box.

ParticipantI like that the right-turn lane on south-bound Wilson is disappearing, in front of O’Sullivan’s. It will make that corner a little easier to maneuver.
Would this design be compatible with a potential future extension of the protected bikelane on Wilson?
