Hi! I’m Julie. This is my first time doing Freezing Saddles, inspired by some friends who’ve done it for a while. I live in Takoma DC, I have a tween son, I work for DC Gov, and I have a notable number of pets. I bike almost exclusively as a mode for commuting so I’m still working on finding reasons to get out on weekends. Happy to join the team and learn more about y’all!

Hi, all! I’m Pete Czapiewski, and this is my second year doing Freezing Saddles. I’m a retired engineer, and current bike mechanic. Most of my rides start in the early morning, before the wind picks up, and leaving from Alexandria/Fort Hunt VA. In addition to FS, I’m active in the National Capital Velo Club and Potomac Pedalers Touring Club, doing road, track, cyclocross, gravel, and mountain bike rides or races.

Pete I looked you up in the USA Cycling database. Quite an impressive palmarès!

Julie– I’m nearby (in Hyattsville) and bike your direction fairly often. Give me a yell if you want to meet up or are looking for a weekend ride!

Hey– it took me a while to get here to say hello– the problem of having a “work computer” and a “not work computer”. I’m Christy. I’ve been participating in BAFS since 2015ish. I live in Hyattsville and work in Crystal City, though I’m only commuting once or twice a week right now. The Crystal City job is relatively new, though (October), so I’m still figuring out my way around NoVa (I’m waiting for there to be some sun after work so I can really explore). In the past I got most of my miles commuting, but I’m now getting more from Proteus Brews coffee hours, grocery store runs, and Rumi texting me to get my “TFM” (ten f***ing miles). I’ll miss a few days this spring– I have some backpacking plans this spring and will miss this coming Wednesday because my husband is turning 50 (!!) and I don’t want to show up at the nice restaurant in my bike gear. Not that he’d be shocked if I did, mind you. (I turn 50 a few weeks after BAFS ends this year). Generally, though, I’ll get my TFM. I mostly bike on the Anacostia River Trail system, including the NE and NW branches and the Sligo Creek trails. I also bike downtown a decent amount. I’m always happy to meet up, and would love if we could do at least one group ride (or at least group convergence).

Hi team—I like the name Sleet 16 Pete suggested! This is my first FS, and I haven’t spent much time navigating the forum(s?) but will do my best to be an active communication participant in addition to consistent rider! My goal is to bike every day, which is a concerted effort since I don’t have a commute and usually walk for errands. I’d love to meet up for a ride (or convergence) with any/all of you. I’m in Adams Morgan and frequent Beach Drive and the towpath but love the Anacostia system and VA trails too.

    Dearest Team 16

This is Rumi crashing your team thread to announce this year’s “team fundraising challenge” to reward any teams where all 10 members chip in *any amount* to the Feeding Saddles campaign, our annual charity partnership with the Capital Area Food Bank!

To help your team win a cool little prize:

    1. Donate Any Amount (every dollar provides two meals!): https://give.capitalareafoodbank.org/campaign/feeding-saddles-virtual-fundraiser-2023/c457737 (if you already have donated, skip to step #2, and yes, you can donate anonymously if you prefer)

    2. Hashtag: To count your donation towards your team challenge goal, just edit the title of your latest ride on strava (any ride since Jan 1 really) to include this hashtag:

    #FeedingSaddlesTeam16

    3. Check out https://freezingsaddles.org/pointless/hashtag/FeedingSaddlesTeam16 to see your team’s progress!

    4. When all 10 on your team have chipped in any amount, you WIN! (and so do people who need food!)
