Hello members of Freezing Saddles Team 8! I was drafted to be your captain and would be happy to continue to do so. I will send more info later, but now the important thing to do is to request to join our Strava group. Please go to this link in Strava and ask to join as soon as possible: https://www.strava.com/clubs/250612

As you can see, at the happy hour we decided for the team name Crazy Eights.

    Yours in Freezing,

    Steve

Bumping up that we need all of Team Crazy Eights to join our Strava club. I do not think that the following folks have signed up yet:

    Hello, Crazy Eights!

I made it to happy hour last night, and am stoked about the fun team we’ve assembled. I got to meet (or see again):

    • Joan is a transportation cyclist, so much so that she delivers the compost and even visits her mother by bike.
    • lynnsalvo actually CROSSED THE COUNTRY on her bike! (Joan and lynnsalvo frequently ride with Babes on Bikes.)
    • Our unofficial captain sjclaeys makes his own beer and occasionally challenges himself at the Tuesday morning hill ride.
    • Teresa A was late to happy hour because she was off organizing ANOTHER bike team.
    • And worktheweb is a long-haul commuter, and has excellent priorities for chocolate croissants with great coffee.
    • Absent because he lives in the PNW was Phatboing, who I met long ago at Monday pancakes. He apparently loves Seattle biking so much he rides his legs into Jello.

As for myself, I live in south Arlington (Long Branch Creek) and often commute to my job at NatGeo. I love bike touring and exploring new places. My personal challenge is to beat last year’s mileage, and explore all of Arlington’s public art sites by bike during the winter months. Beer, coffee, and socializing as time permits.

Please feel free to introduce yourselves! And don’t forget to sign up for the Strava team.

Now that we (hopefully) have everyone on the Strava team, let’s follow Gina’s lead and get the introductions started.

Ahoy! I am honored to be the captain of this team. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know. I will also try to suggest team rides and get togethers, but frankly am not very good at that, so please feel free to offer suggestions or (better yet) take on the planning. Most days I commute from near East Falls Church to Capitol Hill, and often go to the Best Buns coffee club on Wednesdays and the Java Shack coffee club (aka FCC#2) on Fridays. I’ve also been know to do Pete’s Tuesday morning hill rides, but only because I then have an egg sandwich at Cafe Kindred. There is a pattern here of coffee and cycling. I am running the Beerneuring competition and highly recommend participating. Riding a bike, drinking beer, what could go wrong or be more awesome?

    Hello!

I live in the Washington That Is A Real State, so you’d have to ride pretty far to see me (though Mrs. Boing’s employer is based in Tysons, and maybe they’ll have her over and maybe I’ll tag along some time).

    Random bits about me:

    • I LOVE biking in this city. The mountains, the twice-daily lake crossings, the uphill-each-way-and-every-other-way-too, the neighborhoods that change every 10 blocks, all good stuff. Needs more Monday Pancakes though.
    • In more than a year of living here, I’ve not given even one of my pennies to Starbucks. And I never will.

    Hello Teammies!

Yes, it is true that I was late for HH because I was off organizing for another team. I’m the NCVC Women’s Team Director and was off meeting the owner of an indoor cycling studio to put together a winter indoor training session series for the team. I know, INDOOR INDOOR INDOOR! That’s the trouble with people who race bikes, they tend to be fair weather cyclists. As is obvious, what I’m doing with them will not give us any points and I haven’t yet told my new coach about these reindeer games, but please rest assured this week was not representative of my future efforts. I am an excellent sleaze rider.

Other details: I live in North Arlington, work in Crystal City, and sometimes commute to work. And although as I shared with Steve I won’t be as active as in years past, I came back to this fun game because of the fabulous people.

That’s all. I look forward to riding with you all sometime soon!

    Hello Crazy Eights!

As Gina said, I bicycle for transportation. I also bike for fun, of course, and to socialize with friends. I love to design bike routes and explore on my bike.

I have been an active member of Babes on Bikes since 1999, when I rode my first century (Sea Gull) with about a dozen women who were also riding their first century. We had trained together and our joint sense of accomplishment was just amazing. Lynn and I met a few years ago through B-o-B and have been on several biking adventures together. We are thrilled to be on the same FS team this year!

This is my second year of Freezing Saddles. My neighbor, Trey, introduced me to Strava and FS. I am a competitive person and got carried away last year. I have more going on in my life right now so probably won’t ride as much as last year, but I am still driven by competition. Inspired by Teresa’s running and cycling streaks, I bicycled every day of 2016, a major accomplishment for me which I would like to continue through 2017.

That may not be possible, however, because I just found out I need shoulder surgery (scheduled for Valentine’s Day). I will be off my bike for a few days if I’m lucky and doc only has to shave the bone spur, but it could be months before I can bike outside again if additional repairs are needed. The sooner I have surgery, the less chance I’ll do further damage that will require repair and more time off the bike, so I chose the first available date.

It was fun to meet several team-mates at the happy hour! I look forward to meeting the rest of the team on a ride soon. Thank you for organizing us, Steve!

If you would like to be notified by email if something is posted on the Team Crazy Eights thread, rather than checking it occasionally, here is a pro tip that I just learned:

    1) At the top of this page press the “Thread Tools” button
    2) On the drop down menu, press “Subscribe to the Thread”
    3) There is a drop down menu next to “Notification” that allows you to get an email notification of a new post either instantly, daily or weekly

Hi Team (Crazy) Eight! This is my first Freezing Saddles and thought it would be a fun way to motivate more winter biking this year. Anyhow, I’m excited to meet the rest of the team and go out for a ride!

There will be an “unofficial” Freezing Saddles happy hour this Thursday at Cap City in Shirlington. It will be a great opportunity to meet people and get a Beerneuring entry! For more info and RSVP go here: http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?11503-Unofficial-BAFS-Happy-Hour-Jan-19!

    See you there!

    Hello all!

Sorry i missed the HH last week and the radio silence of the last few days, i was out of town for a few days but now I’m back with no plans to go anywhere except on my bike.

I have two little ones at home so it will be hard for me to attend the social events but i will try to post here and of course will continue to crank the pedals for the team.

I live near Shirlington and my biking is normally commute to Ballston on week days and Spokes bike shop ride on Sundays. This is my first year participating in Freezing Saddles and I’m all up for it!

I hope i get to meet a few of you one of these days.

I think I’m going to skip my normal Thursday night ride and go to happy hour instead.

OK Team Eight, we may be the most unsocial team but I am going to try to change that a little. I need to go to 3 Stars Brewery to drop off entries for a homebrew competition. I could drive, but that would be BORING. So, I plan to ride my bike there next Sunday, March 5, and add in stops to other breweries/brewpubs. I am thinking of the Public Option, Right Proper’s Brookland site, DC Brau and maybe Blue Jacket and/or New District. The start would be Best Buns in Shirlington at 10:30. Let me know if you are interested. I will work up a route.

    Captain Steve
