ParticipantHello Team 8 Is Great!
It was great meeting (most of) you at the Happy Hour! Looks like we have a Gr8 team!!! [emoji4] So for those who weren’t able to make the HH, let’s start with a round of introductions. I’ll start –
I’m Samantha – your Captain this year. Last year was my first FS, and although I was too busy to really enjoy much of the social side of the competition, I met a lot of great bikey-people! I’m looking forward to doing some great beernuering/winuering/spiritnuering, & all the great festivities! Want to plan a team social? – Let’s do it!

ParticipantHey everybody! I’m Judd. This is my fourth Freezing Saddles and have met most of my friends through the competition. I was Samantha’s captain last year and she’s great. I donated my car to WABA this year and my bike is my primary form of transportation. I’m heavily involved in the bike advocate community and a common joke is that if there are two people on bikes and beer that I’ll magically show up.

ParticipantHi, I’m Tom aka “Fairfax Hinterlands.” This is my fourth official freezing saddles. I guess before that I was just riding to work all winter and not fussing over Strava. I live out in the Herndon area and I’ve been a friend of FABB for many years. I’m also a Fairfax County Bicycle Ambassador, which means I volunteer with FCDOT and wear an official green shirt sometimes. My mileage is super short these days as I now work less than two miles from home. It really puts a wrench in the whole “commuting is working out too thing. Shrug.
I don’t tend to make it into Arlington all that often due to a trio of teenagers keeping me busy out here in the Hinterlands.
Go Team!

ParticipantI’m Chris, but you can call me consularrider. I am one of the original Freezing Saddles lunatics and have participated every year, missing ride days only on March 2 and 3, 2014, when I went cross country skiing on the W&OD due to a heavy snow fall. I have a fat bike now, so I promise it won’t happen again.
While I met several team members at this year’s opening happy hour, I’m back in Germany and have no idea if I’ll be back in the DC area during the remainder of this year’s festivities.

ParticipantThird Thursday HH!
Tomorrow is the 3rd Thursday HH at Bar Rubioux (I had the location wrong in my original post). I’m still recovering from a cold, so I won’t be able to make it, but hope you all are able to get out to represent Team 8 Is Great! Kevin mentioned doing a ride ahead (yeah if you’re able!). This is a great place to organize! Careful – snow showers are possible during the evening commute (up to a couple inches are possible) & could make all the ice slick. I’ll be back up & running in a few days & will work to organize a team social! Cheers!

ParticipantHi everybody! Looks like I’m off the waitlist and on Team 8! Super excited. This is my first year. I found out about it from a “women who bicycle” Facebook group a couple months ago. I’ve been a weakling since it snowed and been taking the metro after I had to basically walk to work on Tuesday. I’m on a hybrid and am super accident prone so not messing around on ice. But hopefully I’ll be back on the MVT next week. Question about Strava (once I’m added to the “club” on the app) – do you have to manually start tracking your rides or does it automatically log it? I’ve only used Ride Report.

Welcome to the team and to Freezing Saddles! Congratulations on a terrible choice. Only crazy people do this. I’m mostly just kidding. If you can use Strava to track your ride it will automatically upload to Freezing Saddles, provided you’ve followed all the steps to give FS authorization to access your Strava account when you first signed up. If you don’t use Strava then you need to upload the file from the app you use onto Strava if it’s a compatible file type like GPX or TCX. Hope to see you out there!

Welcome to Team Eight is Great! We’re excited to have you! As Jonathan says, by using the Strava app on your phone, it’ll automatically upload your rides to Freezing Saddles & our team.

ParticipantBeernuering Saturday-
Team 8! I’m planning a Beernuering trip Saturday, Jan 26. We’ll be hitting 3 breweries: Settle Down Brewery, Mad Fox Brewing Co, & Audacious Aleworks in Falls Church. I’m still finalizing the route – details will be forthcoming. (There is also a Distillery in Falls Church you can add on if you’re Spiritnuering as well). Leaving from Best Buns in Shirlington at 10am. Hope you all can make it!

Keep me posted on this. We may be out in LoCo, depending on the weekend schedule (#croataniscoming), but if not, I would love to join in on some lovely day drinking! But I must warn you, Audacious Aleworks may not be worth the beerneuring point. It might be more beneficial to go to Caboose #2.
