ParticipantNote, there are a couple social events that I encourage us to attend:
Tomorrow, Monday evening, Team 6 is having a happy hour that I’m going to infiltrate
Team Casual Six is having a happy hour at Brookland Pint, 716 Monroe Street, NE Washington, DC 20017, on February 27 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Infiltrators are welcomed!
Also, the WABA awards and member meeting is Tuesday night, near Union Station:
I think voting is closed now, but there’s plenty of time to RSVP and attend (it’s a fun time and you can sometimes meet some politicians and lobby for better bike lanes and trails)
http://www.waba.org/events/washingto…choice-awards/Join the Washington Area Bicyclist Association at the third annual Bicyclists’ Choice Awards for a celebration of the people and places that make our region a great place to ride a bike.
The Bicyclists’ Choice Awards will take place on Tuesday, February 28th, 2017 from 7:30-9:00pm at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Total Health.
We are excited to announce the Awards will be hosted by Tom Sherwood of NBC4 Washington!
Do you have a favorite new bike lane? A favorite bike shop? Do you know of a bike-friendly business? Is there a social ride that you love?
We want to hear from you! We need you to decide the winners of the Bicyclists’ Choice Awards. This event is special because we rely on YOU to tell us what bike people, places, and improvements were your favorite in the last year. More details about the Awards nomination, voting, and selection process are below.
Event Details:
When: Tuesday, February 28, 2017 from 6:00-9:00pm
Members Reception from 6:00-6:30pm
Annual WABA Members Meeting from 6:30-7:15pm
Bicyclists’ Choice Awards event from 7:30-9:00pmWhere: Kaiser Permanente Center for Total Health, 700 2nd St NE, Washington, DC 20002

ParticipantBest of luck to Proteus tonight at the WABA awards! I won’t be there, as I have the last of the cleaning and turning over apartment keys for the end of the month at the old place, but thinking of you guys. And, after many delays and transfers, I’m back in Maryland, so let’s ride!!!!!

I’d be willing to do a Saturday long ride, I’m not going to promise a century.

ParticipantI’m thinking of an extended pastry ride that goes down the river, across to the Mount Vernon, then down through Alexandria and over the bridge to National Harbor. 10am-ish kickoff at the shop, 11am-ish from Shortcake Bakery. 1pm-ish from National Harbor; 2:30-ish from Bardo’s new beer garden?

ParticipantI’m working, otherwise I’d infiltrate. But, have you considered sticking to the Maryland side of the river until WW Bridge? MLK Jr Blvd shouldn’t be too bad on a Saturday…

MLK is a good suggestion. There’s some really nice hills over there too, my favorite:)

ParticipantHere’s my shop ride for tomorrow. Meet at proteus at 10am, we’ll be at Shortcake Bakery roughly 10:30-10:45-ish, after that it gets murkier. Let me know if you’d like to meet up and we can cruise around together!
Pastry ride tomorrow 10am, with extension option to DC probably. For tomorrow I think we’ll have some riders heading straight back to the shop after the pastry stop at Shortcake Bakery, and I’m planning to take a long-ish, but not too strenuous sightseeing ride down to DC, across the river to Alexandria, back across the river to National Harbor, and back. Probably with a food or beverage stop on the return (ice cream, beer, who knows). Of course, if you want to do the extended ride but not the whole 60 miles, you can take Metro back from Navy Yard or National Airport etc. (or just turn around early and self-navigate back). Trails shouldn’t be too crowded tomorrow since it will be cold in the morning. -Jeff

ParticipantCongrats to Team 6 as of March 6, they have all riders over 1,000 points!
We are very close to 1,000 for everyone, with one more ride from George and a week of commuting from Jon Robot. (PS. I hope you’re getting well!)
EDIT, the latest weather model says the bad weather might not come in until Saturday evening, so maybe we can squeeze in another excursion this Saturday. Then maybe a snow ride on the bike trails on Sunday!
