Okay team 22: I was glad to meet some of you this evening (Jon — I don’t think we officially said hello, but I saw you there. i will work on following all of you on Strava, but feel free to follow me if that’s easier (My real name – Chris Maimone)

we have strava club, and I’ll invite you as soon as we’re connected on Strava:

We need an official unofficial name – so start those suggestions and discussions. Also, a team logo might be nice for the club.

Feel free to use this space to start any other discussions relevant to our team’s success.

And get out there and ride more!

We did not say hello. We’ll have to organize a team ride to fix that.

As my birthday is the 22nd and my favorite book is Catch 22, I’m feeling good about our team, even though I don’t recognize forum names for most of you. I assume you all have 40 mile commutes and do double centuries on the weekends, right?

And speaking of my favorite book, my first thought for a team name is Can’t Catch 22, although BAFS names do tend to be more self-deprecating.

Also, do people prefer email, forum, or Strava for communications?

Nice meeting you and our present teammates Captain! I’m here to be led, molded, shaped into a lean mean cycling machine. Let us begin!

Fortunately I do have a 40 mile commute. You guys will have to pick up weekend saddle time. We have a 20 month old and a stay home mom who likes a break on the weekends.

That’s a good start for name jrenaut. I stopped and introduced myself briefly, sorry I didn’t chat with you more. My favorite Taylor Sift song is “22”! Maybe we could be the Taylor Swifts!!!! Just a thought. “It feels like one of those nights, we ditch the whole scene…doooo dooooo dooo doooo” It’s actually quite catchy.

There’s a wikipedia page for the number 22 also! So many ideas. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/22_(number)

I’m indifferent. I check all three equally obsessively.

Ian – may I recommend a trailer, which you can get used for a reasonable price, and a couple of blankets. That way you can get a ride in AND give your wife a break.

According to Wikipedia, 22 is the atomic number for titanium, which is about as bike-related as it seems to get. I’ve never even ridden a titanium bike, though.

Sorry I missed the fun last night. Back at work after two weeks off and I’m still catching up. I was going to mention the same thing about titanium. One thing the article mentioned is that titanium is a poor conductor of heat, maybe there’s something there?

While I use all three, I will admit that the forum is not my go-to. I find Strava or e-mail a bit easier to use, generally (but I will tend to try to use redundant means for all important communiques).

I like it, although now we’re really venturing into “our team name only makes sense if you read this explanation”

You say that like it’s a bad thing! (Obscure references forever!)

I say we get some more input when more teammates show up! Hopefully they will soon!

There’s also a song by Iron Maiden called “22 Acacia Avenue”. It’s about a prostitute who lives at…you guessed it 22 Acacia Avenue. Some apt lyrics though

“22, the avenue that’s the place where we all go
You will find it’s warm inside the red light’s burning bright tonight”

Interesting too, there’s an Acacia Avenue in Bethesda! AND I RIDE MY BIKE TO BETHESDA!!! Kismet.

Also look up the song “22 Two’s” by Jay-z. I can’t post the lyrics because it’s full of bad words.

Well, being an “ARMY GUY” and having spent some time on the two-way range…the Catch 22 is real to me. I am all about self-deprecating, though my prowess as a bicyclist requires no self-deprecation, Strava Proves It. But, Catch 22…only actual cold should keep us from riding, but if we think we are cold, we are in violation of Rule #5, so we have to ride, even if we are cold. So, Can’t Catch 22 sounds much better than my “frozen dogs” (frozen feet). +1

The only exception is ice. It’s totally legit to not ride because of ice. Unless you have studs, ice will mess you up.

However, it’s highly unusual for there to be ice for an entire 24 hour period. For example, I highly recommend the midnight 2 mile CaBi ride when they’re calling for snow in the morning.

I mean, sure – it’s foolhardy. If there’s a quarter of an inch of ice from freezing rain, then… best to stay in. Unless you’re on Team 22, in which case, lower that tire pressure, get out your ice-melt and go for it ;-) (Says the guy with studded tires on a 26″ MTB)
